I tried that as well before breaking out the dremel. The knot was really glued in there. I manage to screw up things from time to time but I enjoy trying and have had a lot of success stories as well
Thank you. I only have three brushes I use, and this one is the badger. I bought it from another wet shaver who has started turning his own handles. Because of its size, it has a very comfortable weight in the hand. I love the fact that cut outs right by the knot actually look better with soap scum in them than clean.
January Shavette Focus TSS Acqua di Florida tallow soap B-400 handle with Tuxedo knot Weck Sextoblade, Personna blade B V3.1 "The Bunny", Chick blade Alum, Osage Rub, Florida Water Feeling the Spring temperature so I went with it. Ginger's Garden @soapbuddy hit the scent straight on in this commissioned tub. Using @mrchick 's favorite brush and my trusty suribachi bowl I got that juicy yogurt lather that's best for an open blade. The Weck technique continues to improve. I'm getting better reduction on more areas with less errors. Still like to do an all over cleanup and the prototype injector by @twhite brought this shave to BBS. Alum was a cool as the Osage Rub, and a splash of Florida Water topped off my early spring shave. Good Shaves Y'all!
Yes! I like that handle profile because they fit well in my hand. Is it made from wood? Don't often see blue stain on a wood product. I tried to find the vendor on Etsy, but the site bogs down my laptop. I'll be back there to search again unless you have an easy link.
Its actually a resin, so is heavier than wood. If you are on any of the shave groups on Facebook, search for Darius Troth. He is in Texas, and was making these. I am pretty sure he isn't on Etsy. He is a member on here, but I can't remember his user name.
Thank you Charlie! I had no idea being on Tom's @twhite cheer leading squad would put a couple of his hand crafted pieces in my den. They are special & unique, functional, and you couldn't tempt me to trade for them! Jared @PickledNorthern gets the inspirational credit for his collage SOTDs. I like image manipulation and @Darkbulb continues to amaze me with his work.
I started somewhere around page 10... Missed posting for a bit, so here is my second and third week: Week 2: 40s SS Treet Classic Blue Steel 5/8 Straight WW Envy CF Midnight Stag Mickey Lee Sandalwood Pre-shave I continued to use the same blade as the first week and it continued to shave like a champ. These blades seem to take a little more effort to get a clean shave, but it hasn't been uncomfortable. I used the SR for the weekend and enjoyed pretty decent shaves with some mild razor burn. My comfort holding and maneuvering the SR is improving and I didn't get the awkward feel with my grip as often. I got a little cocky Sunday and sliced a neat little 1/8" cut in my cheek below my eye. Didn't feel a thing except the slight tug of the razor which kept me from making it worse... styptic pencil to the rescue. Not too much blood. Slow down, you ain't that cool yet... I should also say that I quite enjoy the brutal scent of Midnight Stag. Week 3: 40s SS Treet Classic Blue Steel 5/8 Straight WW Envy WSP Formula T Barbershop Mickey Lee Sandalwood Pre-shave This week is good so far. This is the first time I've used the Formula T version of the WSP soaps and I really like the way it lathers and how slick it is. The barbershop scent is very pleasant and mild, but it doesn't linger long after the shave. One thing I'm noticing about the Envy knot is that it doesn't like to make a lot of lather in the bowl, but it lathers like crazy on the face. Compared to the first two SRs pictured in my first post, the Blue Steel has been a pleasure to shave with. Its easy to hold and seems to give good feedback. I'm learning that its best to make assertive cuts with the blade, being sure to put some force behind it. Not a lot of pressure against the skin, but avoiding hesitation when pushing it through the whiskers. That seems to give a good close cut with the first sweep allowing for fewer passes. I'm looking forward to using the SR again this weekend, I think the Formula T soap will make the SR glide much smoother.
Thanks! I've been pleased with it. Peter wasn't sure if he could make the handle work, but it came out great.
-Shavecraft El Jefe -DeRuitem Shaving Silvertip -Tabac -Chiseled Face Summer Storm Didn't have a lot of time this morning, so a day off from the focus. It is really too bad that Ikon didn't wait to roll out this razor until it was right, because it is just a fantastic shaver. A bucket load of slick lather from the Tabac and a splash of Summer Storm, and I was pumped and ready to go prowl the senior center.
