Agreed. For the exact same reasons. I thought about a focus, then asked myself WTH I was thinking about. I have fun things I can focus on, and razors I enjoy.
January 19 - PAL and Dustmop focus Gillette Black Beauty on 3 PAL Gold Thin Hollow Ground. Carbon (16) Surrey Premium Badger brush, aka "The Dustmop" The Eternal Tub of TOBS Avocado Cream ( croap ) Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original The Dustmop did better today in its second outing of this round (third time I've used it.) With more water added to the bowl to start, it whipped up a good amount of lather, which I finished by face lathering using the "barber grip". Other than that, the PAL was still comfortably sharp and smooth on shave 16, giving me a good shave with no hot spots or irritation. I'm really quite impressed with this old carbon blade. The first one or two shaves were a bit overly sharp / rough, but since then it has settled into an excellent run of good shaves. I touched it up with an old razor blade hone after 12 shaves, and it has given me 4 further excellent shaves since. I don't know how long it will go, but that is already a great showing for a 60 year old carbon blade. Actually, if anyone else is curious about these PAL blades, PM me your address and I'll mail you 3 or 4 loose in an envelope to try -- I won "350" in the last TSD lottery and the box had more like 650 in it, so I'm not going to run short anytime soon.

I'm loving seeing the brush & bowl by Tom. Even better that you are dropping an APShaveCo. knot in it. Is the texture Tuxedo like? That Pinaud aftershave is one none of my local shops stock. I've heard "candy lime" as in a bit sweet but a bit of musk too. I'll eventually try both Lime Sec & Citrus Musk because I haven't found a Pinaud product I don't like. What's your impression?
Today's shave: Hair Of The Dog That Bit Me Razor: Feather SS Kamisori Blade: Feather Pro Brush: Omega 10049 Boar Soap: Kiss My Face Men's Aqua Post Shave: Alum, Canoe AS I am keeping up the shavette theme whilst doubling my focus and incorporating items I have not liked previously: namely, the Feather SS and the Omega Boar brush. I feel a need to conquer, even if I don't keep something, lest I regret the feelings of defeat if I give up. Which reminds me that after shavette month I must conquer The Grim Weeper, the no-name DE gap canyon razor I started on. The Kiss My Face cream really is great stuff. The scent is mild and almost a non-factor, but lather and performance were up there with anything else I have, to be honest. The Omega 10049 Boar is growing on me as it softens up. It actually did a really nice job tonight. Now, the Feather. I managed to get a no-blood shave with it for the first time yesterday. Rather than play it safe, I tempted fate and tested myself to see if that was a fluke or if I could really dial it in. I am happy to say that I managed two uneventful passes. I think may have accidentally dialed it in. The design still bugs me, but I think I can say I can manage a shave with it and can thus declare victory before moving it on. Alum was quiet again, and the Canoe went on smooth as well. The Weck is on deck tomorrow. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Happy Anniversary January!! January 19 Mostly Shavettes Razor - Fatip Piccolo Blade - (2) Soap - Route 66 Sweeney Todd Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Alum Final day with the DE version of the Shark Super Stainless and it's probably a good thing. This blade will never make it into my regular blade rotation. If it was the only blade available I could certainly use it and be fine, but it just isn't smooth enough to make it worth adding a regular stash to my inventory. I managed a nice DFS in two passes and some pretty serious neck touch up and that works, but the alum is starting to get a bit too warm due to the extra work and the roughness of the blade. As with most products from Lord, this just isn't up my alley. Lather was great today and I got the brush loaded enough at the start to not have to add more as yesterday. So, happy with the result, glad to be moving on to the Magic and the shavette blade tomorrow. Starting to look and act like Spring around here. I'm sure it's temporary this week. We're getting to duck and cover for the inevitable ice storm that will follow thunderstorms and 60's weather. Gotta love it!
I'm intrigued, Sir. If possible post a photo so that the Collective Wisdom of TSD might identify this Beastie!
Surprise.... I am now near Huntsville, Alabama on the yearly winter Southern tour. Dad's Birthday is tomorrow, and I have a gift of 100 Voskhod and 100 GSB for his 1963 Slim Adjustable, and a case of Arko (his fave). Will get caught up on pics and posts tomorrow. Glad to be listening to Southern rain. Other than that...all is quiet in Alabama. Have a fantastic Friday!
Say hi to Huntsville for me! And I must heartily approve of that birthday gift(s) you're carrying. Voskhod, GSB and Arko. It just doesn't get any better than that. Have a great time and Happy Birthday to your Dad!
Thanks Neal! The best of both Cartel branches combined with Turkey's lemon scented divine gift to wet-shavers everywhere...I mean, it's my Dad. No other options. Oddly, he's super old school. Alum and no AS. Like a boss. He's had the same haircut since he left the Army, probably whatever the regulation for officers was in 1976. Tomorrow we're going to Big Cove BBQ in Owens Cross Roads. It's a barbecue "joint", mostly carry out, though there are picnic tables and about 8 seats inside. It's tiny, and it's pork heaven. Then probably some minor league Hockey at Von Braun (the SPHL Havoc) and ice cream. It's 58f at midnight and raining, a pleasant change from the high and ultra dry prairie.
I've used a tuck of both Shark SS and SC. The SC is pretty smooth, better than SS. I hear you on Lord, though I've had decent luck with Asco and Shark SC, and isn't Treet a Lord product?
On Boar: You'll need to use it literally 30-40 times before it fully breaks in. You can speed this by lathering the brush and leaving it soapy to dry overnight. This will encourage the splitting of the shafts and only needs to be done a couple of times. Also, similarly, soaking the brush in hair conditioner will soften it also. I have the 48 model with 120 or so uses, and feel like it's a great boar knot. I'd say with the Feather that you've attained full competency, but that maybe the design is nit right for your hands and style/technique. Kinda like I'll take the Magic over the Leopard had I to pick only one. The Leopard is just a bit small to hold. I am 6-5 and have nba hands, so it's better with the larger Magic.
Nope. Treet is a Pakistani company that does a few other things as well as manufacturing blades/razors. They also have disposable razors and one shavette, called the Safex. I also notice they have a new blade in their DE line, or one I haven't seen anyway. Now to hunt it down.
