Thanks very much my friend. It means a lot to me. I've sent my wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law for a spa day today. I'll have supper ready for my wife when she gets home. I'm at home having a few Buds. I hope to have an amazing shave today also.
January Traveling Diversion Tabac stick & JR#130 Gillette 195 at 9, unknown blade. Alum block, Clubman AS Visiting with family, a bunch of Facebookers that already used up the Internet cap for the month. Missing my broadband at home. Simple set-up: face lathered from Tabac stick, synthetic knot in swamp cypress handle does well. Don't recall my last shave couple days ago, so plenty of stubble to scrape soap off the stick. The Fatty at nine flawlessly mowed for a great bloodless DFS. Quiet Alum & welcoming AS & I'm headed to town for handyman projects on the cattle ranch. Good shaves y'all! Tapatalk Via Kyocera
That's an interesting question. I think so, if memory serves but I'll go back and do some more reading to confirm it. I have been reading bits and pieces throughout the month and I am totally amazed at how far a lot of people have come. Including you! You were all DE back that first month as were the vast majority of us. I see a lot of names that are no longer active here either which is too bad. But we've added a bunch of newbies to keep making it great!
Shenanigans - The Beginning So @Drygulch asked if the Skunk Shave was the first shenanigan within our group here. And while my first thoughts were "yes", I decided to be fair and see if I was right. As usual, my memory had failed me. Here's just a bit of history for those who weren't around in 2015, or those who, like me, have old man memories. The group was started by @Bama Samurai (Chris) and designed to start January 1, 2015. However, in order to give the guys who wanted to participate some time to acclimate and get ready, he opened the thread on Christmas Day, 2014. So, we had a week head start. Reading those early posts is amazing, fascinating, and quite entertaining. We had people showing off their planned gear, discussing possible soaps, asking questions about whether or not the Rule allowed for variation (it does not, but that's why the Focus was invented by G.D. Carrington). People were doing practice lathers complete with a series of pictures to show their results and progress. You get the picture. At one point, Chris posts up a picture of a soap stick with a knife that he used to slice off some. This led to a post by @HolyRollah that I believe would be the first volley in the first Shenanigan. On December 28th, on page 3, post #52, he comments that he was concerned Chris would attempt to strop the knife and shave with it...and suggests a shavette instead. (Talk about prophetic). Two posts later, #54, Chris responds with an assurance that if he were to use anything Samurai related it would be a sword - and he includes a picture of a Samurai sword. That, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and all the ships at sea - would be the original Shenanigan. One more historical note - we posted 178 times in that first group before we ever hit January 1. Almost 10 full pages of pre-month preparations. And finished with 55 pages.
Can Marines cook things that don't slither and crawl, are stabbed or snared then cooked on a stick? Congrats, BTW.
