Scent, smell, odor...whatever term you prefer, scents are extremely personal. We all have our favorites that have been lauded or excoriated on shaving fora. Today, I am going to list my favorite soaps, regardless of their performance, but rather just their scents. Broken up into a few different scent categories. There are more sub-categories, but it's my thread so I get to choose. Let's begin: Best Unscented Soap AOS Tallow Best Barbershop Soap Mike's Barber Shop Best Herbal Soap MdC Fougère Best Woodsy Soap Jabonman Vetiver de Haiti Best Citrusy Soap DRH Arlington Best Floral Soap Klar Kabinett Best Cologne Soap Fine American Blend Best Menthol Soap Mike's Peppermint & Rosemary Let's read yours. Remember...the soap can be crappy, but you love the scent.
I am very biased towards strong and woodsy scents. My favorite is TOBS Sandalwood, although I only have the cream. I intend to try Haslinger's Sandalwood when the time comes to order more soaps. I also really like Captain's Choice North, which is a juniper scent that is not as strong as TOBS, but still quite decent. Sent via mobile - Chris
Fun thread! Some favorites of mine...... Perhaps my favorite scent in wet shaving right now is Fine American Blend. Tobacco-type scent - Route 66 Cavendish, followed closely by Soap Commander Fortitude. Overall great scent, but sort of defies category - Country Club Cahaba Blues. It's a tobacco-esque scent but is also made with a local brown ale, so the scent is really interesting. Cologne-type scent - other than Fine American Blend would be Fine Platinum. Others that I really enjoy: Stirling Ozark Mountain Route 66 Twisted Tweed La Toja Speick Mitchell's Wool Fat
I concur on those two soap fragrances! If tobacco scents are what one enjoys, I highly recommend two from Crowne & Crane: 'Cognac & Cubans' and my favorite, 'Tobacco & Amber."
Great thread! To keep it to a half dozen-ish: I Coloniali Mango - I cannot ever seem to pin this scent down. Suffice to say that it is light, intoxicating, and if heaven has a scent, it must be something close to that. I don't even want to shave with it, I just carry the little pot around and smell it. Hibco Tobacco - This soap NAILS leather and tobacco. It was everything I have ever looked for in that scent. It was also difficult enough to create even a mediocre lather that I PIFfed it. A real shame. Stirling Electric Sheep - Citronella, lemon, eucalyptus.... It is AWESOME! And it keeps bugs away. Stirling Ozark Mountain - Woodsy, earthy, smokey. This is a scent powerhouse. Stirling Limes - Just straight up, pure lime. It is perfect. Soap Commander Courage - Peppercorn, citrus and cedar. Is is a light, fresh cologne. I love it. Stirling Gentleman - Tobacco, and light vanilla musk.
Most of my soaps are citrusy in one way or another. And in most of your categories I have only one soap that fits so here we go: Best Unscented Soap La Toja (I'll call this unscented) Best Barbershop Soap Sir Hare Classic Barber Best Herbal Soap Palmolive Classic Best Woodsy Soap none Best Citrusy Soap Route 66 Cranberry Citrus Best Floral Soap Tabac Best Cologne Soap Stirling Executive Man Best Menthol Soap none Best SWMBO approved scent: Blades Grim Smolder
Nice thread Primo...here goes... Best Scented Unscented Soap?? (There is something wrong with that statement...) Anyway...I love the scent of Valobra Unscented Best Barbershop Soap - Stirling Barbershop Best Other Soap Scents a. Haslinger Schafmilch b. MWF c. Saponificio Varesino
Safari shave soap by Ralph Lauren is without a doubt, the strongest and best scented shaving soap I have ever used. It's hard to pin down the scent. I would call it 'upscale vintage barbershop.' Bergamot, geranium, lavender, vanilla, wood and leather. My other favorite is Saponifico Varisino Felce Aromatica (Fern). Not the usual one layer scent. Smells like a forest after a rain. Fern, moss, wood and wet earth. Runner-up: WSP's Fougre Noir. A Drakkar Noir knockoff.
I'll have to change some of the categories around, as I don't own soaps that fit into every one of the OP's, but here goes! Best Barbershop Soap Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber Best Herbal/Spice Soap Meißner Tremonia Indian Flavour *honorable mention Tiki Badlands Best Woodsy Soap QCS Celestial Woods Best Citrusy Soap Savonnerie du Bon Berger Manderíne Cedre Best Cologne Soap RazoRock Santa Maria Del Fiore Best Tobacco Soap Catie's Bubbles Connecticut Shade *honorable mention Henri et Victoria Cognac & Cuban Cigars Best Bay Rum Soap Tallow & Steel Grog
Unscented: Stirling's Naked and Smooth - amazing performance Scented: I'm a sucker for any sandalwood and Stirling's is excellent
I am a huge fan of scented soaps, some are works of art, and the artisans are always pushing the envelope. Here are a few of my personal favorites: barbershop: Mike's barbershop Floral: Soap Commander Renewal Tobacco: Cattie's Bubbles Connecticut Shade Spicy: Uncle Jon's Silk Road A few others that are hard to put in a category are: B&M Leviathan I Colonaili Shannon's Haymarket Vetiver Nuavia Rossa Soap Smooth Frankinscence & Myrrh
All time to go soap when I need to escape is Kabinette Dusy rose. Best bang for the buck is Pre de Provence in their lovely floral and # 63 Mitchell's Wool Fat is the equal of a well dressed man who looks like he DIDN'T think about his wardrobe and risk affectation PALADIN Pythian Way and it's four stablemates are familiar yet maddeningly different. Ken has brought the same attention to detail as his magnificient brushes. You do need to mess with them to find the sweet spot of lathering. RAZORROCK XXX and Santa Maria del Fiore? Va Pensiero enters my head with a regular longing for both. ALL of these soaps also deliver performance.
I would be hard pressed to work into your categories, but scent is a major factor for me in my soaps and many of my favorites seem to run in similar veins. Closest thing I have to unscented is La Toja, which I like quite a lot. RazoRock Tobacco (now called Puros) is hands down my favorite tobacco scent, and is the only soap I have ordered a backup puck of before I put a dent in the first. Others I love: Tabac Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Route 66 Rum Runner Stirling Barbershop Stirling Autumn Glory Stirling Tuscany Stirling Gentleman TOBS Sandalwood TOBS Eaton College CRSW Limenthol Old Spice Lathering Shave Cream RazoRock Tuscan Oud Barrister & Mann Bay Rum Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
