It hasn't affected my wooden handles. I did use marine grade urethane on them, however. Don't know if that would make a difference.

    I love that brush!

It is a beautiful brush indeed!

@Boojum1 had an issue with it and a Bob Quinn Wood Handle. I know for a fact that it caused huge black spots on the finished aluminum of a BSB2 brush. I thought I was out some serious money with that mix up. I did manage to get it polished out.

Interesting, I wonder what the wood was finished with. I went with a marine grade urethane thinking that if it is good enough for an oar in the ocean, it is good enough for a daily dunk in a sink.

'5' is pretty much my limit on a Slim. I've done passes on '6' but usually feel like I'm taking a lot of risk for little gain. YMMV, though.

I really need to get a couple of Rubies one of these days. It's hard to believe in the idea of a bad blade from St. Pete.

That does look like a nice one. It will be interesting to see if you can polish out some of the defects in the case.

@RyX is definitely one of the unsung heroes of the Den. My own Fatboy was from a very generous trade with him for which he got a Schick G1 and a sample of Cella.

I was thinking about the Fatboy this morning and was reminded of the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi: "This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon... for a more civilized age."

When I got the Fatboy, I was a bit skeptical at first regarding its legendary status. My favorite razor, at the time, was the Slim and my first few Fatboy shaves were good but not great. Somewhere in November, though, something clicked and I fell into a groove with the Fatboy to where it is now pretty much my "go-to" razor.

Probably a good approach to take. Especially with such a beautiful piece of wood in such an elegant handle design. You did a great job on it.

I have a Renaissance Faire type horn quaich that I used to use as a drinking cup in appropriate settings, but the horn started to delaminate. I finished it in a couple coats of outdoor varathane and now use it as my lather bowl. However I think the varathane is eventually going to peel off again. I will have to try marine grade urethane next time and see if that works better.

Thanks! I'm not an experienced handle-maker. I've just made my first ones as a fun hobby, and chose the finish as it seemed to make sense to me. I have no idea how the finish will hold up, and experienced/professional handle makers can weigh in on its appropriateness over time I would imagine. Have done enough woodworking and turning over the years to think that this finish is a good place to start!

I'll be comparing this to the Aristocrat, as that has always been my preferred Gillette. The Slim is definitely an above average razor and the more I have used it in the GBT the more I've liked it. Something about the FB last night really clicked with me though. I think it's the weight and balance. That extra 7 grams over the Slim and how it balances on a shorter handle was noticeable!

I was about to offer him a couple as well and realized I have no more of those in my inventory. For a very good reason. They suck.
