Are you still using it, or did you retire it?

Yeah I had the same issue at first - not even enough pressure to work. I guess we need to be a bit more specific and say that "no pressure" really means "no more than necessary" because every razor requires some at some point. And the SS was also a bit more difficult compared to the CJB so I know exactly where you're coming from. Not bleeding all over the place? Is that shaving? I need to spend more time in your world I think!

I still have it, but I prefer the CJB that @Keithmax sent me. It may still see some limited use when I want a challenge, but I have considered putting it on the trade/sell block.

Yeah, I got rid of that damnable thing like a week ago, and my face is completely healed for the first time since before Christmas. I mean I hated to wimp out, but I was starting to have friends asking questions about depression and self destructive behavior.

    Multi-non-related-topic post:

Topic #1: I need for you guys to recommend a Route 66 soap for me. I really, really like my Bourbon Jungle. I'd like another of her soaps. A family member asked for a gift idea, so this is a great workaround to my soap no-buy. I got a few samples from her:
    Bourbon Jungle - Winner!
    Rum Runner - also enjoyed
Cavendish - no detectable scent (Fluke? On paper it sounded like a winner and everything else has been strongly scented)
Perfect Storm - nice, soapy, not a full tub contender
Black Pearl - still not sure on this one

I tend not to like sweet/fruity scents overly much. TOBS Eaton College and CRSW Limenthol have the citrus covered. I like earthy, tobacco-ey, nature scents. I am covered for Sandalwood. I like Tabac, Stirling Barbershop, RazoRock Tobacco, and even some masculine florals. Suggestions based on experience?

Topic #2: Stirling aftershaves. What kind of scent strength/longevity do they have?

Topic #3: Strops: @Drygulch, what size do you recommend starting of with?

Topic #4: I think I might be becoming a cartel guy. What are my next steps?

Topic #5: Tips on removing an old knot from a brush, and what will I need to re-knot it (apart from a new knot)?

As far as the Route 66 scents that I have tried, Bourbon Jungle, Cavendish and Sweeney Todd were my favorites. But @PLAla piffed me a tub of Lumberjack that is just great. It has a hay component in it, and fills out the cedary smell. Almost like clover and spruce, I don't know. It rocks.

Stirling Aftershaves vary a lot depending on the scent, but none of them (other than the straight citrus) are especially quick faders. Some like Executive Man, Piacenza and Gentleman will give you that couple of hours of real deal, then fade way down but be present for half the day, maybe a hint throughout the rest of the day. Some, like Sandalwood, have it going on all day. Were there any that you were curious about in particular?

There are quite a few Stirling scents I like. I've gotten quite a few soap samples and have 2 full-size tubs. I was wondering more in general. Clubman original and SR each give me a couple of hours and I don't really need a cologne with them. Barbasol, Proraso and Canoe fade much more quickly and I wear a cologne with them. I am wanting g a general idea as to longevity and whether they can be worn as a standalone fragrance.

Yeah, these stand alone. Some moreso than others, but none of them Ive tried are a quick fade like Proraso. Except again, the Limes or Grapefruit etc..

I finally got the hang of it, but not without some battle scars. And having the hang of something and enjoying it are entirely different things.

    Fatboy February!!!!!

    February 6
    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (3)
    Blade - feather-yellow-box.jpg (1)
    Soap - Tabac
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

For starters, you wanna see my new toy I got today?

    grater.jpg

I told SWMBO I was going to try shaving with the center slicer on this thing - you know, the one long serrated blade. I think she was about to blow a blood vessel when I let her off the hook. In spite of my history and curiosity, this is for grating SOAP. NOT my face. Now, how many of you had the same thought that she did, eh?

On to the shave. Back to 3 on the Fattie tonight and a Feather is aboard. Mild setting, Feather blade. This should be quality. Tabac and the Wolf for the lather. I'm going to use the Tabac a bit more to get it down to the last bits to match up with some leftover Mitchell's I have then use the grater to make some FatBac.

It couldn't have been any smoother than this shave tonight. Absolutely could not feel the blade. But, two passes done, WTG and XTG with a bit of touch up and........................there it is, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and all the ships at sea...........I do believe I can call it a BBS on two passes. And that's on 3!! That's just how good Feather matches up to a quality mild razor. The question for tomorrow is......when I go to 9 will it produce the baby on only one pass........or will it just rip me a new one and remove large parts of my face? Stay tuned. Same station, same razor and blade. Hope your week is off to a great start!

Oh, and you should probably sit down @wristwatchb . I ordered 10 Feathers today. That's 8 more than I've ever had in my inventory before. Decided to save a few bucks and buy them more than 2 at a time since they seem to keep coming up for trial more often now. Nice job getting me to keep going back to them. And they call ME a salesman!

Today I chose Dollar store AS, don't remember which one though! Smells like a barber product. Shave was the usual...a little Arctic Chill for @crackstar today. Two grand worth of suspension issues on the vehicle, but alas all is well! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado!

    Have a terrific Tuesday!

Route 66 Barbershop Hop is fantastic and different from your Stirling Barbershop.
I only have the Stirling Barbershop AS and it lasts all day, easy 14 hour+ scent longevity.
I have his 45 but your best bet is reach out to him, he is great about recommendations.
Voskhod is a gateway blade, our fearless leader can help.

Voskhod is indeed a fine choice and a great intro into the world of the Cartel. Other choices from the Moscow boys would be the Rapira Super Stainless (pink/blue/black) and the Rapira Swedish Supersteel. Ladas is another fine choice. On the St. Pete side there's always the Astra SP and the GSB. Perma-Sharp also comes in high there.

After five shaves, I decided to toss out the Rapira blade after all. Not because it's done; it certainly had a few more shaves in it. But because I want to try another blade tomorrow.

    Mühle Rocca R96 razor
    Rapira Platinum Lux blade
    TGC synthetic brush
    Tabac soap
    Pitralon Classic aftershave

Smooth experience today! Almost a shame to discard the blade already.

I am also in possession of and enjoy Astra SP and Gilette SB blades. The Cartel bit was a bit more shenanigan than anything. I have been enjoying my Russian blades.
