    Fatboy February!!!!!

    February 7
    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Tabac
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Alum

One more day on the Japanese wonder blade and the razor is going from 3 to 9. BBS on two passes on 3 last night without a lot of heat from the alum. Sharp blade, mild razor. Tonight, wide open Fattie and a sharp blade. Not the usual recipe for great success but.......we shall see.

I was instantly impressed by the smoothness of the first pass. Normally on the Slim the top setting can let blades get harsh. With the Fatboy it seems a lot tamer. The different head geometry clearly makes a big difference on this razor. Worked the first pass on a superb Tabac lather and was eagerly awaiting the rinse to see how close I was to the baby. And..........yeah, ok, so it was a DFS at that point but not near-BBS. Still a comfortable and bloodless pass.

Second pass was XTG with touchup and I saw the first problem right at the end. A slight cut on the right jawline near the chin. Yep, the Samurai blade did its worst. Well, not the worst it's done, but you know what I mean. Disappointing but, in any other razor this aggressive, I doubt I'd be looking at just one cut. Still, that's a deduction. The overall feel is BBS. One small cut and very hot alum - which also was different from last night - and I have to say that the shave doesn't quite make it to the level of glorious success. Still, I've certainly had worse.

My recommendation - don't turn the adjustables wide open on this blade. Even with me focusing on riding the cap and keeping it smooth, the irritation level is way up there and the cut sealed the deal.

Tomorrow it's off to St. Petersburg for the Gillette Silver Blue. Two shaves to see if I get the baby at 9 again. Also, my Monday is again upon me. Man these weekends go fast, whether they're on the real weekend or my strange one.

Found a vintage Gillette commercial I hadn't seen. I love these things.

$1.29 for a brand new Red Tip? I'll take a couple dozen.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

No doubt. Although the equivalent for us today would be $11.66. Still, not a bad price for a Red Tip.

Here's a freebie. Watching vintage ads and some others on YouTube and ran onto this.

Your photos just get better and better. I like the outdoors shots!

I remember you giving advice to never eat fresh water raw fish. Something about I'm a red neck but I've seen allot things so I assumed you were witness to someone who ate fresh water shashimi.

I just love the scent of this Barbasol! M Bomb plus Florida Water ($5/Kroger) added a chilly orange finish to a nice two pass shave. Pardon a photo recycle. Voskhod definitely shines in a shavette. Teflon blades are my faves (GSB and Voskhod), and I will do GSB tomorrow to compare. Honestly though, in a shavette it's difficult to differentiate between blades blindly, and I doubt I could. Strange weather on the prairie, 63 and very windy, currently only 51 at 22:30. Not bad for the first week of February and the "dead of winter"! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a wonderful Wednesday!
    :)

Somewhere in those whiskey-hazed Alabama summers, between boredom and stupor, that probably happened. You know what they say, if it doesn't kill you...

It's one of the hidden gems in shaving world. If I were stuck using it exclusively with Shark SS Saloon, I'd be ok with that.

When I used the SS there was just allot of blood, never could get a good shave from it and sold it. I bought the DX and it shaves great.

    1. Hold the razor closer to the head. It will reduce pressure. Short deliberate strokes work best, people tend to lose the angle on a long sweeping stroke.
    2. It's too early to judge. Watch any "how to shave with a straight razor" video and practice skin stretching. It will give you closer shaves. Don't judge anything right now, Wilkinson is a pretty average blade...help is on the way!

    RyX DoH!

I think I got that started suggesting perch from a pond near me. I was unaware of the difference between bacteria count of salt water VS. fresh. It's a shame because on a sunny calm day I could fill a five gallon bucket with hand sized yellow perch.

    SharptoothC I bite..........

It's done well with every blade I have tried in it. The Gillette SB was especially nice though.

The blades "Sensei" has sent you are good. You will enjoy them. If you'd like a sample of a few others, send me a PM.
