Here you go Paul @Paul Turner. Instruction for the '61 Slim. I don't see angle of attack there, so here's an image that gives an idea. Left is scraping, bad idea. Right is getting closer to the correct angle. Start with that handle straight out from your face, then tip it down until the blade just touches skin. That's for a downward N to S stroke. Good to try on your cheeks until you get it working well. No shame in using your well known disposABLEs to clean up. You mentioned doing a S to N upward pass? For most folks that's ATG. Easy to do on cheeks, bound to cause irritation on your neck if the angle is off.

Good sleuthing, Clint! that is a very good thread too. @Paul Turner will soon be saying disposed instead of disposABLE!
Good sleauthing on your part as well. I have found everyone has a different perception of shallow angle vs steep angle so I just describe the handle as parallel or perpendicular to the floor.
Focus Shave #44 -Kai Captain -Stirling Finest Fan -Stubble Trubble -Ogallala Bay Rum Second shave on a Feather Pro today. Day 2 is always my favorite. The blade still has its fantastic sharpness, but any roughness has been smoothed out. I love using these razors, and the Kai folder is probably my favorite. I would give today a DFS ++. I have been completely finishing the shave on my face, then putting alum on my fingertips to REALLY stretch the skin while I finish my upper neck and bottom jawline. This has helped my end result immensely. The only thing keeping me from BBS at this point is that once I put the alum on my fingers I try not to touch my face where I still need to shave, because it's like slamming on the brakes once that alum hits. So now it's that I am missing a little spot here and there on cleanup more than I can't get to that spot. I am hugely satisfied with the results I am getting, and BBS is now just a matter of time. Today was the third day this week using veggie soap, and it only reinforces my belief that a soap does not need tallow to be top tier. This soap doesn't take a back seat to anybody. I hope he does well enough in his endeavor to stick around a while. When I finish up some soaps, another tub of this is at the top of my list. Have a great day everyone.
Yes they do. I also have one of his 26mm brushes, and it does too. These are simply amazing brushes for the price, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They aren't mega dense, but there is plenty of hair in there so they still have a decent backbone, and they don't hog the lather. I think the face feel of these is way more like a good quality 3 band than a typical finest, and considering how cheap they are, they are the best value in a badger that I have ever seen. I am excited every time one of them comes up in the rotation.
Feb 10,2017 '54 SS w Polsilver (2) Soap Commander Endurance TGN Boar/ Figured maple handle Thayers Unscented Day 9 of the 40s SS focus. Much better shave today, thank goodness. The boar is starting to show signs of the ends splitting nicely and it whipped up enough Soap Commander for 3 good passes. One small weeper that didn't even have the gumption to try to outlast the Thayers. After 2 days, I feel that the Polsilver is not shaving quite as close as the Astra with the standard 3 passes. It is very smooth, however, and no real irritation. Yesterday was so bad skin-wise that I might have to just throw that day's results out. One or two more days on this blade and then I'll switch to the '52 Canadian Tech to resume the 'vintage focus'. Have a great day all!
I'm going to shift my focus away from the Fatboy and back to the NEW SC and Feathers. 9 shaves on a Feather blade in the Gillette 195 was unexpectedly good, but I miss my 3 piece!
The razor: Schick G1 The blade: Chick The brush: Maggard 24 Plissoft The soap: Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Aftercare: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Osage Rub, Nivea Sensitive Balm Two days in a row on focus. I am feeling like a goody two shoes. That said, I am seeing a pattern arise. It seems I am getting closer shaves with SE razors. The angle is so intuitive with them that it is hard not to. The Damaskeene and the G1 are providing great shaves with minimal effort. Route 66 Bourbon Jungle continues to be an amazing soap. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Many people have made that realization about SE's. I have too much fun with DE's, but get better shaves out of SE's. Perry @PLAla has switched to SE's completely.
I did a focus on injectors a while back, which led to AC style SE's. Between the two, I barely even look at DE razors anymore. Even with the limited blade choices for injector razors, they are still my favorite safety razors to shave with.
I've noticed that, for some reason, the angle diagrams only seem to appear on the non-English (especially German) instructions. Somewhere in there, I think, is a commentary on either the knowledge of US vs. European shavers or their interest in technical detail.
I can see that easily happening. I rarely reach for my DE razors of late. Of course, I just finished a month of shavettes and went straight to a SE focus, but dang if they don't just work. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Yep, I have switched over. I have a few blades left and two DE razors - a Superspeed and my first Wet Shave Club 3-piece. I had a Maggard V2OC that I liked but loaned it out to a denizen who promptly vanished. So I'm without that razor now. I'll keep those two DEs for the time being. They'll probably be PIFed in the future.
