  1. Very nice setup. I read a lot about that X3 being quite mild. Does it get its work done too?
  2. Thank you, Jared. I am able to get a solid DFS on two passes and just a little clean up. It is pretty smooth.
  3. From order to doorstep in less than 4 weeks.... just saying. ;)
  4. 13 February 2017 Menthol Monday Blade/ Focus Shave
This morning, I busted out the Proraso Green SC(tube). The 10098 is in full stride now. Lots of great slick, shiny lather. The GSB was it's usual stubble assassin self. Two and a half passes, dead quiet alum. Icy cold towelx2, some Dominello Vitali and Proraso Green AS. What a great start to Monday!
  5. lol....y'know, I should have written that anyway, given how mad I was at the website
  6. Pluck it

  10. Give it a try. You'll never go back
  11. February 13, 2017- Interlude

During a recent wander about eBay, I came upon a Chinese clone Atra handle for $0.75 shipped. I've been curious about trying the generic TracII/Atra carts for a while and figured it was a cheap way to do so. Last week, the handle finally arrived, so I grabbed a pack of carts from the local Dollar General. Today we see what kind of shave a $0.75 Chinese handle and some $1.75 (incl. tax) carts can give.

Initial impressions: The handle looks a lot like a real Atra handle, but is very light; this is probably due to a greater use of plastic and cheaper metal. It's definitely not chromed like a real Atra handle. (BTW, why are Atra handles so expensive on eBay? It seems like you could buy a Slim for less.) The blades are presumably from Dorco though they have a white glide strip rather than the orange one on their own carts. Also, it appears I could have spent another $0.75 or so and just gotten the carts and a Dorco handle from DG as a complete pack; I don't know if this would have been better or not.

As for the shave... There's a definite difference in feel given the light weight of the handle and cart (probably more akin to a disposable) and the twin blades. First pass was good and would probably be a SAS to CCS. Second pass pretty much brought home a baby with no complaints from the Alum.

I wish I could remember if I used an Atra back in the day. I know I used a TracII for some time and I still have my original Sensor handle so, I assume, I must have tried it at some point. Not too long ago, I had a couple of shaves with the generic Mach3-compatible carts from Edgewood. To be honest, I can't really say that they produced a better shave today's shave with a twin-blade cart or that either is significantly better than a good DE or Injector shave. I suspect that the truth is that, if you put in the time and care, you can get a decent shave with any halfway decent razor and blade be that DE, SE or cart.
  12. You know your doing a focus when you get up at 4:10am in order to not have to rush a straight shave before an early flight. I'm smooth and smelling good
I have a straight in my checked bag and won't even have access to a safety razor for a week. Sounds like fun

  13. Mine is minor but has been diagnosed as incurable. I have found that by procuring samples occasionally, it has kept it in remission and kept my den from growing.
  14. Hi guys.....after watching the helpful videos in here, especially about angling the razor, I could see the difference between the narrow angle vs. shallow. THAT was an accomplishment. But I still couldn't get much whisker-killing done. More practice needed, especially since I felt I loaded well, especially before the second(and final)pass. I think I'll take the Slim to the shop today(that is...to my kitchen table, chuk-yuk-yuk)and clean it and put in a new blade.
  15. "Ahhh, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now"....
  16. I saw that story this morning, too. I wonder how the alum feels after his shaves?
  17. Safe travels. You definitely travel in style.
