MdC is good warm but in a hot scuttle it falls apart. So hot tap water is ok but from the kettle it's a disaster.

Is the water in Seoul hard with minerals?

Our water is not soft but not very hard either.

I cheated this morning; I switched from the Mühle Rocca to a Fatip Wood (2016 model). And while shaving with the Fatip, I also realised why; the Fatip requires skill. Shaving with the Rocca is so easy that it gets boring. As for the end result? That's the same for me; DFS in two passes with both the Rocca and the Fatip. But the Fatip requires me to concentrate a bit, while I can just shave away with the Rocca.

    Personna Platinum Chrome blade
    TFS Arancio Amaro soap
    HEMA Sensitive ASB

A great shave this morning was a perfect start for the day. I enjoy MdC soaps in general but I love this Vetyver scent with its earthy, smokey, spicy notes. Two passes and some touch ups in the trouble spots provided a smooth irritation free near BBS shave. The one spot on my neck is my nemesis most days. A splash of Agua Balsamica and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

I have had a great week of shaves using this as a travel razor. I'm on my way to the Chicago airport to fly home. I will get home, pick up my wife, switch suitcases, and drive five hours to spend a long weekend with my in-laws. It's going to be a long day

    Ogallala Bay Rum Shave Stick
    Pure Badger Brush
    Geneva Cutlery Company Razor
    MK Sport Cologne
I think I will take the time to grab another straight for the trip. I like variety.
    Have a great Friday![IMG]

Great shave today with the Fat Friday setup! High quality lather from The Fat with an efficient and comfortable experience from the Schick adjustable. All-around terrific shave. Great way to end the work week.

    Razorock Plissoft Brush
    TSD Lanolin Barber Shoppe
    Ikon X3 Slant w/Maggards MR5
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    TSD Floid Blue Type AS

This razor is definitely a different one for me. Each time I start shaving with it, I wonder at how smooth it feels. It is literally that we'll machined, cool aluminum just gliding across my skin. The fit and finish on this razor tops any of my others, and it shows here. But, when I get to my second pass, which is a hybrid XTG and ATG, it seems to want to bite. This is just my unfamiliarity with this razor, so I will need to spend some more time with it. Other than a nick here and there, the shave was nice, and was followed by some TSD Floid Blue Type AS, which is definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite. I hope everyone has a great Friday!

Feb17th - Final Day with the Derby Extra...

    Merkur 34cHD
    Derby Extra Blade
    AOS Black Pure Badger brush
    AOS Preshave - unscented
    Stirling Sharp Dressed Man
    Alum
    AOS PS balm
Today I focused heavily on razor pressure. It was not going to be the cause of irritation today. I pre-wet the Stirling to help get some onto the brush early in the shower. Soaked brush was well shaken to the point of being damp but not wet. It easily grabbed sufficient soap by doing this in about 20 seconds of brushing the soap. I took my time to create the lather. I think the first steps of 'dissolving' the soap to make a paste help the later stages or at least that is what appears to me. Lather created looked very good. Upon applying it, it seemed to dissipate a bit. I am not sure if this was due to the oil pre-shave or too much water. Adding a touch more soap created perfect lather on the face. I made sure to go very gently and verify the cap was ridden as well. 3 passes and I had a DFS. I did do a few touch ups but the blade had felt like it was not cutting as well as before so I resisted. Alum was a bit of a disappointment. I was not as screaming but it was definitely biting and stinging. The shave was good and the lather was great and slick but the blade is either too dull for me or too worn out or both. From the first passes, the blade just glides over the skin on every shave. If it wasn't for the alum sting, I would consider this a good daily blade.

With the weekend coming, I have decided to replace the blade and with the lousy performance indicated on the Shark SS blades and the fact that many do not go beyond a single shave or less, this will be the next blade so if I need to 'recover' I can skip Sunday.

    Summation:
Need to see if preshave is affecting Stirling or if I just need a little dryer soap than I originally thought. Do I need to take into account water on the face or what?
Derby Extra: extremely smooth and gliding blade. Unfortunately too dull I believe.
SHM - very nice. scent was still weak. When I order a full tub cannot wait to enjoy the scent. definitely a repeat item.

Thanks Jim. The picture along with the B&W earlier in the week were taken on the dining room table. I have found there are only so many places to take photos in and just outside the home.

Very cool filter. I saw a Tweet yesterday that Ikon might be making their SBS razor in aluminum as well. I think it is nice that more razors are being made in aluminum.

Today I got the Trumper GFT out. The 10098 whipped up a nice lather and the GSB did it's thing albeit with a little fall off. But it was the last shave of the week, so I can't complain. A little Aramis and Friday was under way. Next up, 7 o'clock Green. We're off for President's Day, so Monday will be the me-time shave for the week. Have a great weekend!

When using pre shave oil, my lather is never seems as good as not using it. I really saw little to no benefit from pre-shave oil and removed it from my routine.

Great to return to the soap/brush routine, if only for today, as Rise is next in my rotation. But I got vey good loading results with the Jayaruh #59Went close to one ful pass with the Gillette Slim, but the Sensor Deuce DisposeABLE closed it out again.

Agreed. I think the pre-shave oil was more of mental benefit when first starting out than anything else. I haven't missed it.
