18 shaves so far. :happy096: The Timeless is so efficient I think you surpass my 21 shaves on a Personna 74. Next time, I will try with the Timeless.

    February Fat Boy Focus

    Brand X Peppermint, B-400 Tuxedo
'59 Gillette #195, Personna Lab Blue
Alum and Proraso Refresh AS lotion

    SOTD 02182017.gif
York peppermint patty & a heavy dose of menthol in this sample of shave cream made with a base with Chemical X = slick, moisturizing, smooth gliding lather. Slightly wet Tuxedo knot dipped one time in the cream, worked in a damp suribachi yielded more lip numbing lather than I intended. Not finding joy with Gillette 7 O'clock Black blades in the Fat Boy, I poked around in my blade stash. I'm going to have to figure out who shared these blue wrapped Personna blades. Under the paper they say,"For Hospital Use". I'm assuming these are the Lab Blues I've heard about. Niiice! Efficient, smooth, no harshness like the previous I just tried. WTG at nine, setting six for ATG, Slant ways slides, a bit of buffing yielded the kind of finish I hope for from a Voskhod. Nice near quiet alum swipe, followed by some minty green juice. DFS+ in the house :)
    Good Shaves Y'all!

    Fatboy February!!!!!

    Playing in the soap

    February 18
    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Stirling Sandalwood
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Quick summary of the shave before commenting on both soap and brush. Two pass with touch up for a near BBS. Alum quiet and a very nice shave overall. There.

Now, two new items in this shave. First of all, the Jayaruh #46 arrived today - my choice from the raffle. Talk about fast delivery of a prize! Hats off to @Jayaruh for such quick action and, even more, for the absolute quality of this brush. To say that I was impressed when I saw it out of the package is a huge understatement. It's Oak, handcrafted, and absolutely perfectly balanced with the Maggard synthetic knot. This is also the brush he cut his thumb making so hey, when you get a one of a kind original hand carved brush - that the artist bled over.....doesn't get any better than that.

Went to the Stirling Sandalwood soap and I have not found a sandalwood I like as much as this one. The scent is like holding a real piece of wood under your nose. Really outstanding. The trick is to get the lather as good as last night using a totally foreign object - a synthetic brush. I did some quick reading in the forums here and picked up the tip to wet the soap, leave the brush dry. I loaded for maybe 30 seconds and went for the face lather. As expected it didn't splay on first try so I went with my technique for a horse brush with painting strokes. Got a very nice lather up for the first pass. On the second pass I managed to get a splay and a really rich lather up. Slick! That's the pass that finished with a near-BBS. Great performance from brush and soap, especially in the hands of a synthetic newbie.

Absolutely one of my favorite shaves in a long time. The brush, the Stirling soap which is impressing me more than I thought possible.....life is good. Oh yeah, the Fatboy did its job too.

Busy day at work today so I have some catching up to do around here. Hope your weekend is all you want it to be!

Day three with my Omega boar.

I have never used a boar with a soft cream so today was the day to try something new. Pulled out the L'Occitane Cade cream and went to work. It is Sunday so I made lots and lots of lather. Today's weapon of choice a Hart Steel 6/8 straight. I got the lather just right thanks to a tip from @Primotenore and kept adding water until the lather was shiny. The edge was uber smooth and plenty sharp. Since the universe felt in harmony I decided to go for it, I finished with a long lasting dolphin smooth face but a tickle from the alum left just short of an epic shave.

Congrats on finding the sandalwood. It is fantastic. It makes me think of sanding on balsa wood models when I was a kid. I love it.

We'll see if SAD kicks in any harder. Lol. As far as brushes I have one of each style now, at least. So BAD is more or less under control. It's the more or less that may get me in trouble on both soap and brush.
