If you do 25 passes (1 pass is a full up and down motion on the strop) on both the linen side and the leather side, it should be plenty.
You can tell from the razor because it should be able to easily pop hairs off (you can certainly check this on your arm or chest hairs prior to shaving if you like).

On the strop itself, you will feel what some call a "draw." There are scientific explanations that can be found on the Internet as to the "why's," but you will feel the blade kind of suck in to the strop...almost like a magnet to metal.

WOW! Amazing Shulton collection! I love that shrine you've made. I wanted to fill my classic 9.5 ounce Shulton bottle with Shulton cologne, so I had to obtain the juice from a vintage 1977 black telescope decanter, which was thrown away. I don't keep the bottles or packages except that big 9.5 ounce bottle that sits like a crown on top of my cologne collection:

I threw these on a shelf I just had from years ago that I kept forgetting to throw out. At least I made use of it. When I get into the new house I've been shopping for I will buy bigger, more dressed up looking shelving. This will have to do for now.

Damaskeene with a vintage Blue Star did commendably well but needed help from the Shake Sharp. While they are excellent beard slayers I don't find any of the GEM blade razors can go ATG on my crown stubble nearly as well as injector or DE bladed units much as I love the Damaskeene and its extended family. And I can't get Mr Cueball without that ATG action. SAD.

All considered, it went well. Shavette is absolutely more difficult to pick up than traditional straights... But the good news is that this is totally doable. Honestly, it will take 50-90 shaves to figure it out fully. So glad you tried, just keep practicing!

Thanks for the tip. I am so new at straights, that I don't know what I should or should not be feeling on my face.

Good looking stuff Tim. Did it look like this? Top left corner of my picture of decanters, but it's turned sideways. My mistake. One of my pride and joys. I got it $9.95 plus shipping. Brand new.
