Tracking shows that my Voskhods ordered on Dec. 29 entered the U.S. on Feb. 28. The seller's follow-up to my inquiries and communication have been great. I should receive my blades shortly. :happy088:

Starting today - March Madness Brushoff

    WEEK 1 - The Linebackers:

Just a quick note about how I set up the scoring. It was difficult to do this in a way that all types of brushes could compete in the same scoring system. Lets face it, different brushes have different attributes; great at some things, less so at others. So I came up with this, hoping that maybe a $12 Omega has a chance of competing with a $200 Simpson in a general competition.

There will be nine different categories, ranging from aesthetics of the handle to resilience of the knot when splaying. All brushes start with a baseline score of five in each category. Each brush will be judged in its performance based on my expectations of how that category of brush SHOULD perform. A silvertip badger should have softer tips than a boar. If you observe that an Omega pro has a softer tip score than a Plissoft synthetic, that does not mean I think the boar is softer, just that the boar scores better in its field.

At the end of the month, I will take the top three scoring brushes and give them a second run to determine the winning brush in my den. I feel like I have a pretty good idea of possible winners, but maybe I will be surprised.

All lathers will be made using Stirling soap. They will be performed in the manner I normally use that brush. I do not expect a 21 mm silvertip to face lather as well as a Chubby synthetic.

So stay tuned for this evening's shave. Tonight's contender, and a bargain priced prospect to win it all, is the Stirling 24 mm Finest.

That took a pretty good of stones. Another HUGE example of technique trumping tools. I'm not really phased at the thought of the popsicle stick deal, but I'm not sure I would do more than even think about doing that.

I might have to pick up a can of that, just to see. I haven't used any can soap in several years, and probably not Barbasol in close to ten.

I like this guy. Cinco de Marzo anyone???? Now, before anyone answers let me be clear about something. This is NOT a recommended shave to perform. In fact, smart people who have a will to live would NEVER try this. So there is absolutely NO encouragement to do this. Of course, I've demonstrated my lack of concern for my own life many times here. So I'll be trying to improve on his result with less need for styptic. You are welcome to watch and shake your head. If you're in, however, that would be this Sunday. A Feather blade, carriage bolt and two nuts. I'll be building mine in the next couple of days. Anyone? Buehler?? Buehler??

I'll pick a soap in the next couple of nights. Going with the JR46 because I know it can add the water needed to get as slick as I need.

You mean greasy over the top heart attack inducing burgers aren't on every corner in Seoul? Shocking! That's probably why they always appear healthier than the rest of us.

Wait a minute, you are NOT going to shave your face with the razor and carriage bolt? I am not sure you can post a video here of you doing anything with a pair of nuts!

Let's stick to facial shaving, OK? this is a family type forum...
