Good morning friends. Today I had my first shave with the Shovel Head and it was a treat. It's really hard to compare a DE shave to an SE. Something about the ridgedness of the blade that just makes for a very efficient, close shave that isn't overly harsh. 3 passes and I am super smooth. Have a great day everyone!

    TABAC
    Dove Men Face Wash
    C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream
    Jayaruh #144
    Gold Dollar str8
    H. Böker 5/8
    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    T.N. Dickinson's WH
    Pinaud Vegetal AS

The TABAC Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #144 finest badger brush. I did two passes: the first with my new Gold Dollar razor, and the second with the H. Böker 5/8 and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with T.N. Dickinson's WH and then Pinaud Vegetal AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Friday's shave: the dog and I went for a walk this afternoon - got about 2 miles out and it started to rain and kept getting worse all the way home. I guess thats one way to hydrate my beard. Cleaned up and just shaved. Thought I would try Tabac again. just received it a few days ago and this is my second time. Lathered very well and gave a very nice shave, but the scent is not as enjoyable as many of my other soaps. Tabac - to me anyway - smells like soap. I like my bay rums, woodsy scents, citrus scents, and cologne scents like Stirling EM. The rest of the set up was some of "my go to" equipment - Merkur 34c with a Ladas blade, Simpson "The Colonel" best badger brush, Captain's Choice bowl, Nivea balm and ended with a healthy splash of Clubman Bay Rum. Friday night date night - got no idea where the wife wants to go - wherever it ends up being - another $100 of my retirement will be gone. Oh well - I just would have spent it on more shaving soaps.

Tonight's shave was with a wonderfully sharp and smooth razor. I don't know much about the history behind it, other than I got it, had to clean it up a lot, and hone it. It was the first razor that gave me a really nasty deep slice, with that point. Ever since that slice, I've had a paranoid respect for spike tipped razors. Needless to say, it's now in my rotation of favorites. Two pass shave, only one was really needed, and no touch-ups. two tiny weepers, that I didn't know I had, until the shave was over.

    Brush- B400 By Tom
    Soap- Arko/Sandalwood
Aftershave- Vintage Avon Spicy. "The Bishop II"

    SHAVE OF THE DAY
    20170303_201113.jpg

    Prep: Musgo Real orange amber
    Razor: Gillette Redtip
    Blade: Rapira SS
    Brush: Fine Angel Hair Synthetc
    Soap: Kshaveworx- Black Orchid
    Post: LT, SC Fortitude balm

2 pass shave this afternoon. The scent of this soap is not what one would expect with a scent like Black Orchid. It reminds me a bit of CB Midnight Dreary which is a good thing since I love that scent. It feels like there is something lacking from the Kshaveworx soap, slickness perhaps. Not the worst shave, but my skin was bright red afterwards. Not the closest shave ever. Knew better than to use a alcohol based splash so went with Lucky Tiger and Fortitude balm. Hope everyone had a great shave!

I have the DOC Grackle and find that if you do not tighten the handle too tight, the shave is better. I also used a shim to improve the aggressiveness. It doesn't do much more, but does provide a little improvement. With these minor adjustments, I find the DOC to be a very fun, almost careless buffing razor. I enjoy it quite a bit. I'm interested in hearing what you discover with future uses.
    Enjoy,
    Steve
