You can see what it started with by looking at post #57 on page 3. But lots more has been added from the other members. There is not an ongoing list.
I'll work on typing up what I took samples of. My first pass through The Box was a sniff test. Not a fan of Bay Rum for the Cloves but I checked them anyways. When I took samples my choices were Smells Good & Haven't tried that brand yet. Happy it arrived in good order! I had a scent flashback looking at the photo. I kept the box from previous shipper, so I can go sniff the melange of scents.
I still have a billion and one samples from the box, but I've been concentrating on taming my straight, so I've been sticking with a soap I know, Stirling's Sharp Dressed Man. Today, I managed to get a DFS with 3 passes, only switching to my InjectoMatic under the nose and around my chin. I'll probably go back to the Pass Around samples on Monday or Tuesday.
Im not going to lie it is overwhelming....There is so many years and countless dollars that it would take to try everything that is in this box...I have already narrowed down a quite a few that just arnt for me and there are some that im on the fence about...I will say that ALL our vendors soaps are truely AMAZING (and no im not just saying that), the scents are unique yet familiar and I LOVE every one of them and look forward to sampling them all.....Will post more but just wanted to give a quick 1st impression.
It's VERY overwhelming! A word of advice, put all the things you don't like right now in a pile, and go through them again tomorrow and the next day. It's too much trying to sniff all the samples at once, your nose gets burned out... I also recommend sampling every brand, regardless of the scent, just to get an idea of the performance. I took a bunch of "1 shave" sized samples before I passed the box on.
While you have the box, it's an opportunity to gather samples for later shaves. For the non-vendor soaps pull a sample and try it. These are the soaps that can be traded. I added more than I took out and if everyone does this we'll need a bigger box!
C.F. Summer Storm, JR #130 Schick Type J1 & Chick blade Alum & Pinaud Clubman AS Second sample from The Box. Great scent & excellent lather from this one. Billed as moist earth, oak moss, cut grass, pine needles, orange, lemon, ozone, white jasmine, lily of the valley, geranium and musk. That's a lot of flavor in one tub & it all comes together well. Did I mention I like robust full flavored products? A soft soap with aloe vera juice, coconut oil, castor oil, glycerin, mango butter, avocado oil, & silk powder, plus tallow and it lathered easily. I'm expecting lots of moisturizing. If I hadn't already chose another to swap out, this one would have been great. It's on the Buy List!
I haven't made a dent in my samples and I'm pleased. It's a great deal having an up close and personal experience with so many soaps that I've only seen in photos or read about.
what do you think of the summer storm?...it smells exactly like a "summer storm" but I cant do it as a soap scent.
I'm not allergic to anything & have no sensitivities to any essential or scent oils. Closest I come to avoiding scents is cloves (in most Bay Rums) and anise (black licorice). Just a personal choice. I found the scent off the puck to be mostly pine. To some it might be Pine Sol cleaner scented. I didn't find the scent unpleasant. At a Thai restaurant I tasted a dish seasoned with lemongrass and was reminded of Lysol. End of the meal for me right there. Scent is subjective. Guess that's why there are so many different choices. Keep in mind I like Arko & The Veg. I think there is another Chiseled Face soap - Ghost Town Barber? That will let you try the product in a different flavor!
I left a healthy sample of Ghost Town Barber in the box when I took the tub, wonderful scent, IMO. I also enjoyed the scent of Summer Storm, and still have a sample here I haven't used yet. SS reminds me of my Pap's cabin after a thunderstorm, not sure if it's a scent I'd want to use every day, but I do like it.
