Do trades count? I am doing a blade trade with another member here. It's not a new purchase, but I am paying for postage to send my package out.
Okay, so maybe I fell off the wagon with my purchase of two Genco straights. The starting bid was quite low, so I offered the starting bid price. Nobody else bid and I won. I guess it wasn't an accident as I did start off the year thinking of adding a Genco if the price was right. I wasn't expecting to get two, but they're so nice! So...... my excuse isn't working I see. Am I officially out?
A new mixed knot brush from Semogue would have me pulling my wallet out quickly and I would happily be out. I think this qualifies as being out. If you just wanted to track it, it could have gone on your watch list instead. Being out isn't a bad thing. At least you made it through 2 months.
Well, my fingers slipped. If I am not out, it's due solely to a peculiar technicality in the rules. You see, when I fell, I landed safely on my feet ... in the middle of the TSD Shop. Naturally, I had to be polite and couldn't simply go crashing out the door without even looking around. And it turns out there is a 15% sale on right now... I left with four lanolin soaps under my arm (bay rum, lavender, sandalwood and unscented if anyone's interested). However, because it was the TSD Shop, I understand there may actually be an exemption involved for public policy reasons of supporting the forum. Is this correct and I remain in by the undeserving skin of my teeth? Or am I now out?
Still in...already looking forward to NB 18. I actually never foresee me buying anything other than replacing consumables. Two things would make me out, bottom dial adjustable and a toggle. But not actively looking for either.
Well, I received an unexpected bonus recently and decided to treat myself. So I just decided I was not going to bother skating on a technicality, and I followed up my TSD soap purchases by kicking the doors in on my NB'17, tossing in a grenade, and then dynamiting the remains: I bought the Nathan Clark aluminum-handled Envy White shave brush I have been eyeing for months while it was available in stock. Then I decided I might as well go out in style by cleaning off my wishlist in one fell swoop, and tonight I bought 7 of the 8 other makes of soap that were also on it: Gold Dachs (2 types - Classic and Sandalwood), Klar's, Pre de Provence, Jeeves of Hudson Street (Private Study and Turkish Bath), Reef Point (Espresso), Soap Commander (Integrity), Stirling (Naked & Smooth). The only one I didn't get was Route 66 Lavender Woods -- but if they email back that they'll ship to Canada, I will remedy that oversight tomorrow. Which fills the empty "decent badger" slot in my brush rotation and pretty much covers all possible types of soap I will ever need for the rest of my life. I will now retire to the sidelines with a bag of popcorn and watch the rest of you for the rest of the year -- and then join in again for NB'18...
I was looking at Charcoal Goods razors last night, almost caved, but I'm still here. I'll have to get some witch hazel soon, as I used it after every shave but as of today I haven't bought anything.
It's a curse I tell you . One minute you're riding along peacefully on your wagon seat and the next this big heavy bag with a $ sign on it comes flying out of nowhere, wallops you on the side of the head, and knocks you clear over the side board and down into the dirt... And then the next minute after that, Kathleen @Salty Belle is helping you dust yourself off and offering to help lighten that horrible heavy bag for you...
As I've said, I'm aiming for a NB 18, too. NB 17 for me will be ruined when I turn 60 in a couple months(is there a better reason?
So I had to replenish my staples; drugstore brand witch hazel (my post shave splash) and Proraso pre shave cream. I simply can't go a year without replacing stock. Am I in or out?
