What Straight Razor Did You Use Today?

Tonight's shave was with a razor that came in the mail today, was cleaned up, repaired, and honed.
In all the hurry, I guess I wasn't paying attention, because, when I went to shave, the first stroke made very little sound. It was a dull sound. All I thought was, "Oh Cr@p" , this is what I get for jumping the gun, and thinking this was going to be a great shave. When I honed it, it was a hair popper, and extremely sharp, down the entire edge. Now the sound told me something wasn't normal. I checked to see if hair was being removed, because there wasn't any tugging. Sure enough, smooth as a babies bottom. I looked at the blade, head on, and "Viola" it was almost a Full Wedge. In all my hurry, I never looked, or didn't notice.
Two pass, silky smooth shave, almost quiet. BBS result, without any issues. The aftershave went on without any tingling. Great shave after all.

Razor- Union Cutlery "Gold Spike". N.Y.

    Soap- Arko/Avon Spicy

Aren't those near wedges wonderful? They do the job without a sound!

Picked this up off eBay the other day. Just delivered today 3/4 and it seemed like it was sharp enough to try shaving with after a bath in alcohol. I stropped it and tried shaving with it. Got myself a nice BBS shave. A little surprised since it was an eBay find.

I sacrificed my face for science lol.

I found this on another shave forum. I cannot confirm the accuracy of the statement.

"I was just researching the Union Razor Cutlery Co.
In 1902, Tidioute Cutlery Co. was bought out & renamed "Union Razor Cutlery Co." and actually stayed in Tidioute, PA.
The Union Razor Cutlery Company went thru a name change in 1909 to "Union Cutlery Company", dropping the "Razor" to better reflect it's growing cutlery line. The company was still in Tidioute, PA. at this time.
Then in 1911, the company moved to Olean, NY. for better tax breaks and a more modern plant."

If it were made Olean, then it's no older than 1911.

Thanks, that would explain the more modern looking scales.

Today's shave with the Flic 6/8. This thing easily honed up and has a killer edge which consistently provides close comfortable shaves. I'm really happy I ended up with this one:)

Tonights shave was with my Great uncles straight. I have tried several variations of honing on this. The razor gets sharp but does not deliver a great shave.

The Route 66 delivered a superior lather. I need to use this more. I have been using only 3 soaps lately. My Haslinger, Tabac and AoS cream. These seem to be my go to's. Although I ran out of my AoS Lavender last week.

    Have a great week

    J. Baker Sheffield 11/16 near wedge with a Spanish point

I finally got 1/2hr to myself and decided to remove 2 days growth with this razor. I have never used it before and have never used anything other than a hollow blade. I did notice a difference in the feel of the blade on my face as a near wedge vs hollow. It also seemed to want a little pressure glide through my stubble. I took two passes on my cheeks, jaw & neck, then cleaned up with a DE. Overall a very nice shave with only one nick so minor it didn't really bleed at all.
