  3. Doesn't it feel great to get one of those shaves with a straight? Congratulations.

So thick cap or thin? That was the question I posed to myself with this evenings shave. Grabbed the non-S/N'd single ring (thick cap),a new Kai stainless, and The Holy Black Sandalwood Smoke and tried to find out... The result? Both great shavers but I have to give it to the thin cap. It's just more maneuverable and perhaps a tad smoother in my mind. Glad to have them both!

  6. I thought about trying a straight sometime......takes MUUUUCH longer to complete the shave though right?

  7. Depends on whether you want blood or not
Seriously, it takes me maybe ten minutes longer than a DE.

  8. hmmm....I better not then, or maybe I'll buy one for a "once in a blue moon" shave.

  9. LIke @mrchick I find I need about another 10 - 15 minutes to complete a straight vs. an injector or SE. However, I wouldn't recommend only using one once in a blue moon. There is a fairly steep and longer learning curve to the straights that would make that "once in a blue moon" shave something like fighting with a cat. Once you've got the technique down you could use if once in a blue moon and get good results but not before hand. :kar:

  10. makes good sense. I'm still working at getting to a comfort zone with my Slim.

  11. I agree, to get proficient with straights, it takes dedication. I jumped right in, and never looked back, that was 8 or so months ago. I think a dedicated 30 day challenge should do for most.
  12. Did you have to explain the shaving gear?:D

Two passes to bliss! You know I can!

    Have a great evening!
  18. You forgot to add the soaps you will purchase during the course of 8 years that you couldn't possibly use in a lifetime! They seem to multiply like rabbits.

  19. Nah, I am on the downhill slide of that run. I like to have a wide selection to choose from, but I actually fret about having too many, or ones I dont like very much. Just quirky about it. I will be able to stick around that two dozen pretty easily.

  20. March Madness & Spring Cleaning!!

    March 7

    Razor - Steampunk New LC
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Stirling Sandalwood
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum, Nivea

One more easy night before heading back to the pain stick. Just want to make sure it's all smooth sailing. Grabbed the NewLC with the Voskhod still aboard and the Stirling with the JR46. Easiest lather ever! I'm beginning to get the hang of the synthetic knot.

I'm calling it three full passes but was more like two full and some extended touch ups. I didn't do a full third lather, but spot lathered for where I needed. The baby is in the house and all's well. Great way to end my weekend.

Prior to my shave I did my weekly head shave. Merkur 23C and Astra SP with the VdH Deluxe soap and Boar brush. My soap is nearly gone and my plan was to discontinue that soap in my den. I have so much Arko that I figured it would be a smart and easy switch. I normally only use the VdH to head shave so seemed silly to buy a puck just for that. Then, this happened.........

The bowl was full of lather as well. And, it's usually this way with this soap. Now, there are other soaps (including Arko) that lather just as easily and as well and are also cheap. So really, there shouldn't be any problem dropping this one from my lineup. Something tells me I won't though.

Anyway, have a great night and a better tomorrow!
