Ides of March Madness SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush Henri & Victoria Cognac & Cubans Homemade OC Razor Stirling Unscented PSB Henri & Victoria Cognac & Cubans AS I survived, and blood free even. As I started, I honestly realized this was not the smartest thing I have ever tried, and a bit of doubt crept into my mind. I pushed aside my common sense and went for it anyway. Definitely a different experience. On the cheeks, it was able to get amazingly smooth, on the nooks and crannies, not so much. I did let my common sense take over and kept myself to a WTG pass, so I would rate this shave as a SAS, more than good enough for the training class I am in today (especially since I had halfway expected to have some blood flowing). I have a small bit of satisfaction getting through this as well as I did, but am definitely looking forward to getting back to a safety razor tomorrow. I hope everyone has a great day!
March 15th Gillette SA w Polsilver (3) TGN Finest Fan Jeeves Apothecary Thayers Unscented B and M Reserve Spice Day 10 of the '69 SA 109 focus, day 3 of the Polsilver SI. 6,5,3 for the 3 passes again. Will try at 7 tomorrow, as I am getting smooth shaves at these settings with just a bit left on the neck. I'm 0 for 2 on good lather the last few days, as it was a bit thin again today. Not usually a problem for me, just too careless I believe. Still a nice shave, though. Will get one more day from the Polsilver and then switch it out for a Sharp Star. Have gotten efficient and smooth shaves from the Polsilver the last number of days. Balanced the very faint and subtle Apothecary with the not so faint and subtle Reserve Spice. Have a great day all!
Day 20 of 30 days of straights Another day with my Henckel 6/8 Round Toe, and another nice shave. Not quite BBS and with 2 small cuts, but very nice. I am liking the ABC more every day. It is a very slick croap, easy to lather, and smells great (assuming you like almond). St. James Pre-shave Oil ABC 30mm High Mountain White set an extra 10mm deep 3 passes, WTG, XTG, XTG Penhaglion Bayolea shave cream soothing gel 6/8 Round Toe Henckel 17 1/2 Thanks. I still don't quite have it yet. I still continue to give myself light cuts. But, I figure that is due entirely to my lack of Laser-Like Focus.
Wow, this went much better than expected. I was sure that this would not work and I would have to finish up with my straight. The first thing I noticed was how noisy this thing was. The shave was louder than any of my hollow ground razors. The old buttering toast sound. I was pleasantly surprised to be blood free after the first WTG pass and decided to throw all caution to the wind. I followed with an XTG pass. While I am not BBS, I would call this DFS. I think my daily shaves with straight razors is what got me through this shave. No pressure was the secret. The cool thing about this is the shave was much better than my first shaves with a Feather in my Edwin Jagger a couple of years ago. Have fun! SOTN March 14th Schick C1 C Schick (2) Tabac Stirling 24mm Synthetic Another great shave out of the Schick C1, They keys to success with this razor, like any aggressive razor, are keeping a light touch and riding the cap. This think really mows down the whiskers in short order. Two passes was all it took. One small observation after using the Shovelhead last week, the shaves with the C1 don't seem to be quite as long lasting. Have a great day my friends
March 15, 2017 Razor: Christy with Massage Bar Blade: Personna Mini Hair Shaper (1) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free While I am not brave(?) enough to try shaving with a carriage bolt razor, I did want to do something in sympathy for those who took the Ides of March Challenge and use a razor that offered some possibility of mishap. The Christy razor is a recent acquisition that came along with my Gem Featherweight. From what little I know, this particular version of the razor was made from the mid-20's through the late-30's. It uses a proprietary blade which is no longer available. Hearty souls have noted, however, that the stops for the proprietary blade are in almost the perfect position to allow loading of an Injector blade with a bit of fiddling. So, we have a new-to-me razor equipped uncertainly with a brand new blade for which it was not designed.... Sounds like Wednesday in the Den! Here, unfortunately, is where I have to let you all down. From the first stroke, two things seemed apparent: 1) The Injector blade was sufficiently secure as to not be its own hazard, and 2) The Christy shaves pretty much like an Injector with an oversize head. It is a bit on the aggressive side (though probably no worse than my Schick Adjustable at a high setting) with lots of audio feedback. The narrow rod of a handle is a bit odd, but not overly so. The big trick seems to be that you have to ride the cap almost perfectly flat for the most comfortable results. In the end, I did my usual two passes to a near-BBS. There was a bit of irritation and some heat from the Alum but no weepers or other blood. The irritation, however, I blame on operator error in failing to maintain the best angle and in some overshaving of already-shaved areas. I'm not sure I'd want to put this into the rotation often, but I could see myself picking up the Christy from time to time. My apologies if I disappointed any of you who tuned in today for a bloodletting.
I have one of these too and I have been trying to figure out to mod a DE to use in it. I may have to try it with an injector blade

Good morning friends. I have been MIA for a while, but trying to catch up. I am getting ready to shave five days of whiskers off. The funeral for my mom is today, and I am a mess. I could use any prayers or well wishes sent this way.
