What kind of hair brained, idiotic, no common sense having, daring, admirable, brave, and just plain awesome guys came up with and did this shave without me?

When I get home, I may have to try it. I have no disire to explain to my in laws what I would be using a carriage bolt for.

I was going to post an explanation, Adam, but then I saw Neal's much more eloquent response.

The way Lee at Wet Shaving products packs his soaps, it may take a second aftershave to get through the tub. My experience, anyway.

your son looks great! Thanks for the picture. Getting big quick, don't they.

Quick question, what is Cinder like? How's their soap? What does it smell like?

March 17th - Does a Brush make the Lather Great?

    Merkur 34C HD
    Gillette SharpEdge Yellow (Day 3)
    Dark Chocolate brush (JR#148)
    DIY PSO
    TOBS Sandalwood cream
    Alum/TWH
    Nivea S-PSB

OK, I know I said I was going to take a break but I'm Italian and the face was feeling a bit better and did I say I'm Italian and needed a shave. I had enough growth to remove painted wallpaper and the paper backing off sheetrock - in a single stoke. Feeling good enough in sensitivity I decided to go feather light and methodical like I was using the Scientist razor.

Today, I decided to see if the awesome lather creation that I got with Dk Chocolate and Stirling could be reproduced with TOBS. For me, TOBS doesn't feel as protective or slick as Stirling. With the major change is lather qualities I got using Jim's #148 brush, I decided to see how much of a difference a brush makes. TOBS cream is easy to lather but what surprised me was that Dk Chocolate made a richer, thicker and slicker lather than I have had before or at least it was to me. The scent also seemed to jump out of the bowl much faster as well. So far, to me, a good brush can make a difference in lather.

Did 3 passes (WTG, XTG and then ATG) and I was calm after two of them. No redness or anything. I also resisted going over areas that had no cream. Only the ATG pass did I feel the skin feel more irritated. Having enough soap for a lather and a half, I spread it all over my face and chest and enjoyed the wonderful scent TOBS sandalwood yields. I do really enjoy it. Cold water rinse and then to the judges. Alum was more biting than I would have thought for such a light contact shave. I was very good about riding the cap and keeping the angle small but either the irritation from the week was too much, I wasn't sure. Thayer's was fine and Nivea was enough to help calm things. In all, I got a near BBS which I have seen for some time. The Gillette Yellows are nice and smooth. Not sure I can remark on their sharpness only because I find that it takes an ATG pass to get a clean result. My facial hair does tend to grow more horizontal and is tough like wire so I have seen in the past where a blade can just ride over the hair, especially if it is longer. I almost need a short stiff hair for it to be cut at all. Even with all the prep, the hair resists cutting. If I had to guess, I find the sharpness and smoothness on par with the Astra SP. I would have a hard time telling them apart. 3rd day and the blade does not feel dull or jagged. Still smooth like on the first day. These might remain in my top category of great razor blades.

Thank you, he is indeed getting big quick. He put on a whole pound in the last two weeks.

I have two Blades Grims Soaps, and I really like them. Rumor is that they are made by Maria Arman of Through The Fire Fine Craft, who also makes the soap for Maggard's and a couple other house brands. Cinder is a cologne type scent that almost smells like Acqua Di Gio. Smolder, on the other hand, smells like roasting marshmallows on an open camp fire. Smolder is my wife's favorite scent of all of my shave soaps as too.
