Today was a straight razor Shave School and experiment today. The Henckels was tuggy on my neck the last time I used it, so I refreshed it on a finisher today, and just wanted to see if I got it back. The Dovo is brand new, and I wanted to see if their "shave ready out of the box" claims were true or not, and the Feather was there as a rescue razor if the wheels came off.

I was leery of the shave ready claim about the Dovo, and while I guess I technically shaved with it, I could not go against the grain on my neck with it, and the shave was not especially comfortable. It needs to go to a finisher before I use it again. Somebody with a lighter beard might have been okay with it, or called it shave ready, but by even my newbie standards, it most certainly wasn't. I have seen videos from more than one popular vendor (including the one I bought this from) about these being good to go when you break the seal, but in my mind, they are doing their customers something of a disservice, or at least to a new straight shaver they would be. If that was the first razor I had ever tried, and thought that was how it was supposed to be, I would have quit on day one.

I used the Henckels ATG on one side of my face, and it was sharp and smooooth. When it was apparent that the Dovo was not going to finish my neck, I used the Henckels ATG, and it cleaned my up with no discomfort. (Which means it passes my sharpness standard)

The Feather went back on the rack unused.

It is a Polo clone. It was out earlier this year and he disco'ed it. I think he said it didn't sell well. Blue is still on the site, I think.

My morning shave was 14 hours ago in a different time zone. I'm going out to dinner tonight and decided a shower and shave was in order.
I was inspired by Jared's post and grabbed my Henckels 72 1/2 for a nice St. Patrick's Day evening shave.
