A few minutes on the 400 grit, followed by another few minutes on th 1500 grit. It feels like glass. Definitely a difference between the sides now.
New Arlie . After lapping and softening the edges, I refined my newly honed Sheffield blade. This blade was really sharp and pretty smooth coming off the 1micron film. It's hard to explain the edge from this translucent Arkie. The best I can come up with is "creamy" in a good way. It really refined the edge coming off the film.
Why do I feel this slippery, sliding sensation suddenly taking place beneath my feet? That's tremendous - you are a true gentleman and a first class guy. Thanks so much.
While on the 1500 grit it's so flat and smooth it sucks right to the paper. Creates a pretty strong vacuum.
You know it is flat then. I have a surface plate and after I lapped mine. I slid the stone across my surface plate. Slid on a cushion of air. You guys will dig these stones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Och Aye the Noo..That's the Hallmark of the Arkies..Its Like Honing on Ice Cream..Leaving a Very Sharp Creamy Smooth Edge.. Billy..
Early 1800's cast steel. Blade was nice and straight as well as flat. Very minor chips in the bevel. I applied two layers of tape, and did several cycles on the 1k ; circles and x strokes until I had a nice clean bevel. I removed the tape and reapplied one layer. I finished with my typical progression on the 4/8k and finishing on the 1micron lapping film. I finally finished with the Arkie. This old fella took on a nice keen smooth edge.
