Saturday I couldn't resist shave
Just had to go back to a new to me.
I'm very impressed with the floating head. And the condition, i think the first owner tried it, said out wasn't for him, and put it away. The knurling is sharp, no loss of plating. I'm thinking after two shaves, this is a special razor.
Tobs avocado is great, gonna replace it when it's used up.
Hope y'all did as well, or better.

 

School me on the floating head please. Does it really float? When were they made? I'm intrigued.

Since I received this yesterday, I wanted to try this out today. First I removed the spline from the blade and checked the fit in the razor. I noticed that it fit tightly and decided to try it without the extra cuts in the blade. When the locking lever was applied, the blade adjusted itself, although one notch was slightly off, it did not move. So I figured, WTH, try it the way it is. And since this was my first shave with this razor, I went with three passes instead of my usual two to get the feel of it. After my first pass, WTG, I checked the alignment of the blade and noticed no deviation and went ahead on finishing the shave. Sometimes I used it flat against my face, other times slightly off, depending where on my face. After three passes it was a DFS, but with some touch up it turned out to be a really nice BBS shave. Given time, I'm sure my technique for the Valet will get better and provide for a faster and more efficient shave. Until then, practice, practice, practice. Oooops, just noticed in the picture, forgot to lock it in place after rinsing it out.

I just unwrapped a brand-new Glacial Wintergreen soap and put it into my container so it's all ready for the morning. This L'Oreal Men Expert is a good facial wash, but it's not as cold as the Neutrogena one. The Glacial Wintergreen balm and witch hazel are a perfect freezing finish to a great shave!

Nice, enjoyable shave this morning. Cahaba Blues always lathers up so easily. Very nice stuff. The G1 was terrific as usual. Really an all-around fine shave for a Saturday morning.

To top it off, this is my 3,000th post. Who knew that a shaving forum could be so much fun! I've enjoyed my time on TSD so far and look forward to the next 3,000!

FRIDAY SHAVE

This was a epic shave, early in the morning around 1-2 am. Surprised how smooth the shave went considering the miles on this blade, in fact this may have been the best shave I had with this blade. The WK tallow formula is a top 10 soap for sure, can hold a nice amount of water. Started the first pass with less water than usual and added more water each pass. Not usually a fan or rose scents but this one is different, some other notes make it a great floral blend. The Aloe Vera gel was not sticky or greasy and felt very soothing. Super stoked from the results of this shave.


SATURDAY SHAVE

Had a refreshing shave this afternoon. Not as close as shave as yesterday, but not surprising since that was about as perfect as a shave can get. The Harvest Moon whipped up a nice lather in the copper bowl, it's a rather light scent, pick up a bit of pachouli in the mix. Have noticed this formula cleaned up much easier than the CK formula which left a thick film on everything, although both are not bad at all. I have changed my mind a lot about PAA products, at first I did not care for them at all but I believe that may have been a different formula. Decided to stick with the same razor/blade combo since it worked so well yesterday. Finished up with a sample of Cold Spices, similar to Old Spice but a bit more of a modern scent IMO, has a classic Spice scent but I wouldn't consider this an "old man" scent (even though I do love many of the classics) it did not burn much or cause any irritation. Shave went well and I hope everyone also has a great shave.

 

I'm thinking they were made around 40's.
Next, the blade is not fully supported near the comb. The top cap yes, but the bottom sorta floats over the comb.
I'm new to the razor, And am quickly becoming a fan.
Maybe some of the guys more versed will chime in.

 

Having seen the photos with the cap off it looks like the base doesn't touch the blade near the guard. Not at all like the Stahly with it's spring mounted base plate.
