I'm excited about today. My daughter and her boyfriend are visiting today from 500 miles away. We are starting with them meeting us at church and then coming over to the house. We will fire up the smoker and hang out for the rest of the day Started the day with a very nice shave. Late last year I saw a couple Duke 3 Synthetic posted on Twitter. One in ebony and one in jade. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks. Have a great day with your family! I just found out that there's a gun and collectibles show running this weekend, so that's where I am headed shortly. With luck there should be a few things to look at still, even if this is the third day...
Not yet. Thats where you likely need to watch the Twitter feed like Luke said. And even then it's a crap shoot, waiting.
March 19 - dueling razors!!! Razors: Scientist and 34C Blades: GSB and G SharpEdge Yellow French Vanilla (JR#72) DIY PSO Stirling Vanilla Sandalwood Alum/ TWH Nivea S-PSB Today I wanted to compare these two razors. Fr Vanilla whipped up a fantastic lather. It was more hydrated than I have done and felt fluffier than normal. I did not feel the drying like I had in the beginning. Very rich and creamy. The Scientist shave my left and 34C got the right. The results ended in both doing a BBS shave but this exercise yielded more than that. Switching between razors forced one to focus and keep a closer eye on angle and pressure. I think I have maintained the shallowest blade angle to date on both of them. Pressure was also kept nice and light. I was able to focus on blade feel and sound. You really get a feel when all the other variables are removed. Irritation was much lighter today than in a long time. Alum lightly stung but dulled quickly and Thayers was soothing. This was a worthwhile exercise.
-Dovo Bismarck 6/8 -Tulip 2 -Tabac -British Sterling My wife works today, so that she can pay for my razors. So it means I have the place all to myself, and can use scents she doesn't like. Actually the Tabac is fine, plus it rinses off anyway, but she doesn't like British Sterling at all. I like it because it was the first aftershave I ever had. When I was a kid, my dad scrounged it out of his dadstash of unused/unwanted Christmas gifts and gave it to me. The first time I used this "shave ready" razor, I got a pretty poor shave out of it. I touched it up, and hadn't tried it again, and it was nagging at me to use it. Today was MUCH improved, and I got a nice shave from it, but I need to hit it just a little more. Being new to any type of honing, I am being pretty cautious. I would rather have to work on it a couple of times than overdo it and try to figure out what I did wrong. I also know that my stropping is at least not causing any harm, but I don't know if it is really helping as much as it should. Just one of those practice things. I don't have any shortages of focus topics in the near future.
