March Madness Barbasol and Barber Blade Edition Day Twenty One - Dispatch from five miles up Quick and rare 6am one pass shave before the airport. Other than that...sipping a coffee and happy to report that all is quiet over Colorado. Have a magnificent Monday!
March 21 - End of the Gillette Yellow Merkur 34C HD Gillette SharpEdge Yellow(Day 5.5) The Phoenix Brush DIY PSO Stirling Executive Man Alum/ Thayer's WH Nivea S-PSB After yesterday's shave, I should have known that this blade was done but I decided to do one more. After shaving with a more hydrated lather, I decided to return to one of my favorite Stirling soaps, Executive Man and repeat it. I grabbed the Phoenix and soaked it well and only shook it once to remove some water. Working in the blue jar to retrieve some some yielded a perfect lather. Just to double check, I moved it to a bowl as I normally do resulted in a very quick nicely hydrated lather. I added a few drops at most and it was spot on. With a blade as old as this, I was grateful for the perfect lather. The lather, although airy and better hydrated than I normally do wasn't as light as the AOS. I consider this a good thing. I think it offered more protection. The blade was still smooth going but it wasn't cutting as nice as before. I really noticed it on the second(WTG) and third(ATG) passes. Luckily, alum wasn't all that stinging. I think it resulted in a CCS - DFS result. As worn as it was, I resulted in less irritation than most of the trials with this blade. I think the resultant lather saved me from a really irritated shave. Next up: Rapira Platinum Lux. Need to see if I will be giving the Fatboy some luv or the next blade. Will need to tune in tomorrow to find out....
-Henckels 72 1/2 -Thater 4125/1 -I Coloniali Mango -Stirling Gentleman Today I got this razor tuned up to where it should be. Or at least where I think it should be. It was going through whiskers ATG like nothing, and was comfortable as I could imagine. Lapping film is a miracle worker for a new straight shaver.
Thank you Clint. I really like it. I understand why most straights are made from carbon steel, but there sure are a lot of these out there that look almost like new. The stainless must have something going for it.
