Off focus or refocus or not sure. My focus this month was to use the same set up three days in row, it was tough than I expected. While it is helpful to stick with the same setup I crave the variety. I am thinking about changing my focus to unfocused or comparing finishing hones, Shapton glass 16k vs Zulu Grey. On to today's shave. Today's razor is a Dovo Bismarck 2 and this is the second shave after touching it up on a Zulu Grey. The rest of the set up was Shavemac silver tip and Route 66. Four passes and the edge is very very smooth. Zero irritation, zero blood and smooth face. Irritation A+ Closeness A Smoothness A+ Sharpness A
I found the music of the Marlboro TV ad.....if that ain't the wild west, the man on my left ain't Churchill.
Razor: Portland Razor Co. Chimera/Supply Provision Custom 3 dot head Blade: Chick Brush: That Darn Rob silvertip Soap: B&M Hallows Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Alum Aftershave: B&M Hallows Another couple of firsts tonight; first try of the Hallows and Chimera. First, the Hallows, something drew me towards using this soap tonight, maybe it was a sense of dread. I don't care what it was, I love this scent. Very dark, I got a lot of chocolate of the soap and a little dark Vetiver. The aftershave is slightly different, I'm getting a predominately wet forest scent with some more Vetiver thrown in. Awesome! Speaking of awesome, the Chimera was a pleasure to use, awkward, but still a pleasure. Since I can count on one hand my number of straight shaves I stuck with only using it for the sides of my face and neck. It's loud, balanced and easy to maneuver. I only did WTG passes but I did 3 then cleaned up everything with the Supply. Not BBS but close and zero blood or irritation. Excellent shave tonight. Have a great day folks!
Finally catching up after another busy day so you may already be in full relax mode. I just wanted to say great summary and....yes....this group of guys is a rarity and an amazing one at that. Here's to adding a few newbies every month to an already fantastic group! Have a good few days of R&R. As for the flat earth wackos out there - I'm thinking a lot of the NBA guys are trolling us. The rest of the wackos - well - the geocentrists have been arising again in the past few years. You know - the whole sun revolves around Earth thing? Yeah, no lack of people with the ability to suspend reality.
March Madness & Spring Cleaning!! March 21 Razor -Feather SS Blade - (1) Soap - Soap Commander Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum Back to the aggression of a pain stick tonight but it's the Feather SS. After using the Kai Captain for several shaves and getting the feel of the DX style head I'm ready to see the difference in the feel of the SS and its "lip". I'm also hoping to feel the difference between the Captain Original blade and the Feather Pro. Lather from the JR46 and Soap Commander Courage. Every time I use this soap I like it a little bit better. I'm almost to the point of considering a trial between Soap Commander, Stirling and Route 66 to see which one is better (in my opinion, of course) but I'm just having fun using them all at the moment. And, about the time I decide one is a little better I use another one and it makes me forget what I thought about the other one. It's a conspiracy. Two passes and I can tell a difference between razor angles but honestly not much more. I do feel like I'm probably a little looser with the SS if only because the lip does provide that little bit of cushion, but other than that it's a very similar feel to the Kai, which, of course, it should be. As far as the Kai blade to the Feather blade - six of one, half a dozen of the other. Very close in effectiveness. I finished with a nice DFS with this shave just like I have been with the Kai. That brings about a shocking thought - am I so comfortable now with pain sticks that they have become interchangeable like DE's? Time to figure out another challenge if that's the case. My Monday awaits and it's an inventory week. Fun stuff. Hope you are all doing great and it's always great to catch up after being off the computer for most of the day. You guys make the day all better!
I wonder... do those two beliefs go hand in hand or can you have a flat earth that revolves around the sun?
Glad to see the snow melting for you. I know it has been a long winter for you. The written instructions are great Doug. Congrats on having such a complete razor set.
March 22 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush Barbon SC Gillette Old Type Stirling Unscented PSB Barbon AS I just received this shave cream and AS, so I had to use it. The cream reminds me a bit if Palmolive Classic. The scent is a bit different, as I get some citrus, oakmoss, and some lavender. The AS is stronger in the citrus, which seems to be a bergamot. The performance is pretty good, again similar to Palmolive. It was really enjoyable. I find this razor is one of those that gets lost in my drawer, and I don't know why. It is a nice shaver and produced a DFS this morning. A great start to my day. I hope everyone has a great day!
March 22, 2017Mongoose B2 with Triad TiFeather Pro Super (11)Romera Olive Wood SyntheticReef Point TranquilityFine Lavender Happy Wednesday. The little Romera continues to be a lather making machine. The scent of Tranquility is a very pleasing mix of lavender and peppermint. I enjoy the slickness of the lather and the post shave feel is above average. Two passes and some touch ups provided the expected near BBS shave. During the week, I rarely find the need to chase the baby and overwork my lower right neck. I finished off with a splash of Fine Lavender. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
Beautiful photo, Clint. The depth of field is great as the razor almost seems to pop out of the picture.
Day 27 of 30 days of straights Today was another very good day shaving with the straight. I did manage to cut myself on my left cheek, but it was a very light cut.. I still need to learn to flair before landing. This was also another day without any irritation. Overall, it is a DFS. I almost managed a BBS, but I am just a touch off. 3 passes with no nicks, 1 cut, no weepers and no irritation. DIY Pre-shave Oil ABC 30mm High Mountain White set an extra 10mm deep 3 passes, WTG, XTG, ATG Sampsons All Natural Aftershave Balm 6/8 Round Toe Henckel 17 1/2 Thanks, guys. At around day 15 I knew for a fact that I would never get this. Around Day 20 it all fell into place.
An eBay seller. It was $10.99 for the cream and AS shipped from Hungary. I am definitely pleased after my first use.
