Thank you Jim. I am very happy with this lineup and I am sure it will be revisited. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lovely colors Jim. Do you prefer the Gem style razors or the injectors? If you were forced to pick one style. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you, Clint. I find I prefer the Gem style over the Injectors. I find the Gems to be a little smoother. Both are definitely capable of good shaves, and the Injectors are a bit more nimble, but the Gem just seem to cut like a hot knife through butter.
I am praying for your wife's wellness and that you will have calm and peace! When things are stressful a good shave can be amazingly calming. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Day 28 of 30 days of straights I have 3 statements to make about today's shave. 1) It looks like I did shave. 2) I have 5 new cuts 3) I sprayed on more alum today than I have in the last year. I don't know what happened, but it was not a good shave. Day 3 of the Rte 66 Cavendish/Clubman Special Reserve double whammy. My first pass missed some spots on the left cheek, and being a lefty to begin with I found that embarrassing. 2nd pass cleared it all. I'm trying for 5 straight days of this combination. I do find myself eager to switch after 5 days at most(that is, to a new soap&AS). But I'm happy doing 5 with this one. I'm an East Coast guy with a West Coast way of living. 66&SR provides that West feeling for me.
I have been working through my flea market razor finds this week. The Aristocrat is fantastic, and I get along well with the Super Speeds as well. Last night I had my first go with the old style open comb. I got tons of nice lather whipped up from my Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations soap and went to work. Well, I cannot find a comfortable angle with that thing. I fought with it through a full pass, trying different angles, and got some reduction but not without discomfort. I decided to put it down and finished up with my Weck Sextoblade. I ended up with a fantastically close shave and a continued appreciation of Shavettes. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
March 23 - Love the Rapira!!! Merkur 34C Rapira Platinum Lux (day 1) 23mm AOS Pure Badger brush DIY PSO Stirling Baxter St Alum/ Thayer's WH Nivea Sensitive - PSB BEST SHAVE EVER!!!! 3 Pass - No touch up. BBS achieved. Baxter Street just smells great and even with my worst brush, I got a perfect lather today. Just watery enough for great slickness and thick enough for great protection. I was super please. Today was the first use of a Rapira PL. This blade just glided effortlessly over my skin. I had to several times checked if I was even making blade contact. It was that smooth. the sound was extremely light to almost inaudible. The blade showed no drag. 3 passes (WTG, XTG and ATG) yielded BBS. As a first use, I think this is my best blade. Will need to see what longevity it has. Very impressed with this blade. It definitely trumps Voskhod and might be a tight race with the Astra SP. Today, I was also in a rush and even moving quickly did not cause a cut or weeper to occur. I got a great, fast, close shave with this blade in the HD. Alum, I applied and had to check to see if I removed the cap or if someone put plastic wrap over it. I felt nothing. Nada. No tingle at all. It was like listening to an outdoor concert while you are within a soundproof room. You know something is going on but you have no feedback. Witch Hazel and post shave balm and I have no irritation at all. Very pleasant shave and awesome outcome. I keep touching my face and feel no irritation and a super close shave. I have not been this smooth since I was 10.
Very good! For me the first couple of shaves with a Rapira PL and an Astra SP are very similar. Then the Astra begins to fade while the Rapira keeps holding strong for a few more shaves.
This happens to me too. I'll have two weeks of fabulous shaves followed by a disaster. I wish you better luck tomorrow.
Today was a very nice shave with a razor that is new to me. I won this gear on a giveaway raffle on another forum (except the brush). The soap smells great and this razor is staying in the rotation. SOTD Torino Forti Sensazioni Soap B-400 Brush by Tom Tuckmar All Right Razor Thayers WH Brut After Shave Have fun!
I bragged about what a good shave I got yesterday. It was just terrible today. I don't know what happened, but tomorrow is another day.
Yes, the Tulip was ahead, but nobody chose it so I dropped it. Same with the Butterscotch Simpson Synth. I mentioned it when I did it, but I should probably add a note in the standings I post. Thanks for pointing it out, cause it doesn't make sense otherwise.
Jared, I would rather see all the reviews and just move who wins based on the next higher place selected. It is up to you. All I can say is I am truly enjoying your reviews and it is bringing a better understanding of the attributes of a brush to look out for. I also am surprised how different you and I are when it comes to preferred handle shapes. So all your feedback has been great. Thanks for doing the reviews. Sincerely, Frank
