    Aftershave: Dr Jon's Propaganda

Excellent shave this morning. I received a trial puck of a Bay Rum soap from a member on Reddit to try. I'm not the biggest fan of Bay Rum however this one was nice and light. The performance however was excellent once I got the water dialed in. Finished off with some Osage Rub followed by the Propaganda. Great way to start the day. Have a great day folks!

  4. Actually, I did.

I am lucky that my wife and I share lots of interests in common. There are few interests she has that I do not and that I have that she does not.

Most of my hobbies I try to pull her in but golf, shaving and archery are just not her cup of tea. Bowling, cars and car restoration, movies, astronomy, R/C aircraft, parrots, cycling we share in common.

There is no harm in trying :)
  5. Day 29 of 30 days of straights

This was a much better shave than yesterday. This is somewhere around a DFS. Only one small weeper today.

  6. One rule of thumb I try to follow: Before or after making a statement that causes Mrs. Drygulch to give me that look, I refrain from giving her anything sharp enough to seriously cut me. Some say it's fear, I call it a healthy sense of self preservation.

  8. I am so happy with this razor. The size, the grind, the balance, and the edge are all just right. I think this is my Goldilocks razor. Can you tell I got a nice shave today?

  9. Very good, Comrade. There is a glass of Victory Vodka flavored with saccharine and cloves waiting for you by the chessboard at the Chestnut tree cafe.
  10. Glad to see that things improved today. Your progress has been outstanding.
  11. It isn't one I see myself warring with often when I have so many others that work well for me.

  12. This is why I rarely post pictures. Unless they are set in my daughter's dollhouse, unused space is at a premium.

  13. Like Clint or Doug said, little or no potential upside, huge downside possibilities.

She does use a DE mostly, or she has a vintage Trac II handle she uses too. She likes soap and lather, but mainly uses Kiss my Face bottles. If I am sitting around home and she is taking a bath, she will have me make her a bowl.

Pretty happy with today's results. This is the first razor I ever honed other than refreshing, and I took it all the way from setting the bevel. It is sharp. As in plenty very much so sharp thank you, which was one of the things I was worried about with the whole straight thing; being able to stay self sufficient. (For the most part anyway) It just took me a couple of tries to get the bevel set properly, but then it was all down hill. I had bought a really crappy loupe on Ebay and couldn't see a darn thing with it, not knowing what I was looking for. So I bought a better one, and good lord, Ray Charles could've seen that the bevel was messed up on it. I am quite DFS'd.

Thanks again for the razor, @Bama Samurai .

Double Fat Friday! My second attempt at a small sample of MWF. Common issue when learning to make lather - Use More Product. I scooped up what was left of a sample from The Soap Pass-around, mashed it into the textured bottom of my suribachi, and attacked it with the synthetic knot. Much better results as the bowl went from proto to full on creamy thick lather. Fine tuned with a dribble of warm water for "Now I get it" yogurt shiny goodness. I stopped counting blade uses so I've no idea how many service cycles this current one has. It's still sharp and at number nine the #195 smoothed WTG right on through two days stubble. Down shifted to six and enjoyed plenty of The Fat for ATG, XTG, G-slides, and touch-ups. I was expecting loud alum but seems glide, cushion, and residual lather from the lanolin soap work well. The restrictor on the vintage OS bottle is about 1/4" molded glass so it gives up juice by the dripply handful. That's how I roll.
    Good Shaves Y'all!
  18. March 24 - Rapira day 2

    Merkur 34C
    Rapira Platinum Lux (day 2)
    DIY PSO
    Stirling Sandalwood
    Alum/ Thayers WH
    Nivea S-PSB

Lather was great. I believe I am starting to get the hang of it. The Rapira felt smooth but just a little less so. It did take a bit more effort to achieve a BBS but I got it. Will need to see what day 3 is like. Pressure was a little more and as such, alum was a bit more than warm. Did calm quickly and felt close and smooth all day.
