Got this baby from Larry at Whipped Dog and using that to practice touch UPS and honing my my BBW and Coticule. Don't know if the name is readily readable but it's a Faultless.

I'm guessing so! But still shaves decently. Trying to decide if I should tape this one next time when I go to practice.

I did some touch ups yesterday. I took all the razors to Naniwa 12k first and then some were finished on Shapton 16k or Zulu Grey. All razors were stropped on CrOx.

Shapton 16k - Koraat 1/2 hollow 'Splash', PRC Damascus

Zulu Grey - Dovo Master's, Koraat 1/4 hollow

I Got My Escher Thuri Stone Today in the Post..A Gent PM Me & Informed Me that I Indeed have an Escher in My Hands..He Has a Few of these & it has the Hallmarks of a Yellow/Green Escher..I Also Got this Lovely Piccadilly Solingen 5/8th Silver Steel SR that is Factory Fresh & Never Been Honed..I Lapped the Stone from 320 Grit through to 1000 Grit with Wet n Dry..Bugger of a Job..:happy097:

The Stone is in Good Condition & Took Me around 60 Min at Most..I Also Chamfered the Edges of the Stone..Its a Belter & Very Fine & Smooth..My Next Hone Job on a Naniwa Super Stone Progression through to 12 K then Onto the Escher for a Finisher..Looking Forward to Feeling the Edge Off this Famous Stone..:D

    I Honed the Solingen 5/8th On a Naniwa Super Stone Progression...1 K, 3 K, 5 K, 8 K, 12 K & Used My Newly Acquired Escher Thuri as My Finishing Hone..10 Sets on Chro/Ox & 100 On Leather..:p

I Can See Why this Stone Was Popular Back in the Day with Barbers & Pros..Its as Fool Proof as a Naniwa 12 K Super Stone..Simple Simon..It Picked Up & Ran with the Naniwa 12 K Edge Very Well..I Would Guess this Escher Sits Somewhere Between 12 K & 14 K..I Found it Fool Proof to Use & I Done about 100 Sets..The Last Sets were Done Under Running Tap Water to Keep it Slurry Free..:D

I Raised No Slurry with this Stone as it Naturally Produces it..I Rinsed the Blade Around Every 10 Strokes & Rinsed the Stone Around Every 20 Stokes or So to Ensure No Slurry Build Up..This Escher is Very Light in Colour & Clearly Shows when there was Even a Hint of a Light Milky Slurry..;)

The Solingen was Popping Hanging Hairs Straight Off the Escher without Stropping it..I Test Shaved it One Side of My Face & its Very Smooth & Forgiving..This Wee Solingen Took a Very Keen Edge..I Would Relate the Escher to a Diesel Engine & a Synthetic Edge to a Petrol Engine..The Former has Torque Power & the Latter Brake Horsepower ..To Me the Arkie has Both & has a Balance of Torque & Brake Horsepower..:)

The Escher Sure Produces the Most Forgiving Edge..In Fact..It Feels as if it Wouldn't Cut or Nick Even with Some Reckless Abandon..In Sum..I Found this Escher Thuri "Monkey Proof" to Use & it Produces a Very Keen & Mega Comfortable Edge..:happy088:

One of my favorite finishers is the Escher ...and Billy, now you can see firsthand why!
Nearly fool-proof, silky smooth in feel and fantastic edges. Distinct scent to these stones as well (smokey....).
    Love those stones!

Hey Kevin...Funny You Mention the Scent thing from those Stones..Yeah..Silky Smooth or What..The Old Barbers Customers Would have had a Smile on their Face in the Barbers Chair Back in the Day..:happy088:

A Beautiful Shaving Edge for Sure..:shocked003:

Just honed up my new DD Wonderedge
    [IMG]
It took a bit as there is a slight warp in the center. Somebody before me over torqued the center. This caused the one side in the center, to not want to cleanup. Finally got it all straightened out. Took it thru my Naniwa progression 1,3,8&12. Then finished it on my Thuri. I kept the stone really wet with no slurry. The blade clouded over some. But after about 60 strokes it was all done.

It was catching my arm hairs all along the blade. Will be shaving tomorrow with it.

One of the easiest blades I've had the pleasure of honing in a while.
This vintage Otto Fromm 'red Head' 13/16" full-hollow, spike point in pristine condition (not quite NOS, but the nicest mid-1950s blades I've come across) with no hone wear or 'issues' common on many vintage blades.
Single layer of tape, I set the bevel with the Chosera Pro 1000 — generous slurry, diluting as I progressed through a series of laps. Final stroks with nearly lain water. Sticky edge using the nail test; some hair-popping.
At this point I jumped to using all JNats. A long, leisurely series of laps with slurry on a mid-range Okudo Suita finishing stone (shown below beneath the row of nagura stones). Most times, I'd add a Naniwa 3k and 5K before jumping to this stone, but the edge was so keen off the Cholera bevel setter, I was curious to see how this okudo would perform from 1k. Final strokes with water, no slurry. Hair-popping results & very sticky edge.
I then proceeded with a natural progression on a very hard Shobudani asagi (wet, slurried stone below) using a five stone set of Mikawa nagura (Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro, Koma, shown atop the long okudo stone at right) and a tomo.

50+ laps on linen, followed by about 100 laps on fast bridle leather. HHT4 from toe to heel. Sticky, sticky edge.

SHAVE: Loud (full-hollow) but buttery-smooth feel. No resistance whatsoever and no trace of harshness. One of the most comfortable shaves in recent memory. I did an extra pass (#4) just because....

Great description of your progression. I hope that razor is yours, and not a hone job for somebody else.
