Thank you Jim. I agree the Cobra Classic looks great and it shaves even better than it looks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I always enjoy getting a great shave on a blade that I honed. I found this one in the wild last year for $10.00, which is proof that you can get a great shave without spending a lot of money. This is the prep that I use when I don't shower before I shave (Weeknight shaves). I will wash my face with regular old bar soap and leave the soap on my face. Then I will saturate a hand towel with hot water and hold it on my face until all the warmth is gone. They wipe up any soap that didn't get absorbed by the towel and proceed to the shave as normal. I find this much more effective at softening the whiskers then either just washing my face with soap or a plain hot towel treatment.
Im glad you are finding Fine soaps to be working well for you, Clint. I'd be curious to see how many shaves you get out of the puck.
Since the puck was so hard, I have a sneaking suspicion the soap will last longer than average for me. So far, I am really impressed with the soap.
Hmmmmm. Maybe a new signature entry there - "Well-acquainted with razors of dubious quality control". Sounds official, knowledgeable, perhaps a bit daft in the head.
Catch-Up Post SOTN Thursday March 23rd Schick B1 C Schick (6) Stirling Spice Shulton Old Spice AS Ever-Ready 200T I pressed my sample of Stirling Spice into the Old Spice mug and away I went! Wow what a great scent, and strongly scented too. After whipping up the later in the scuttle the whole bathroom was filled with the sweet spicy aroma of Stirling Spice. Lather quality was fantastic as always and the shave went off without a hitch. After the shave I decided to see how close Stirling got to the original Old Spice scent so I followed it up a splash of Shulton Old Spice. The only difference that I noticed were that the top citrus notes were just a little bit more present in the Old spice. I went to bed really admiring the way I was smelling. SWMBO didn't seem to notice, but that's OK because she isn't really a fan of Old Spice. SOTD Sunday March 26th Schick B1 C Schick (7) RazoRock Don Marco soap and matching AS Ever-Ready 200T The scent of Don Marco is just amazing, I love citrus scents and this one is home run for sure. I know I've said it before but lather quality on the new RazoRock Super Formula soaps is top notch and I feel can compete with any soap out there. A week with the 200T was just what I needed to get this brush dialed in and producing fantastic lather. Now I am really enjoying the gel tips and the superb density of the TGN finest knot. The Schick B1 is such a smooth shaver and really delivers. Have a great Monday everyone!
Day 2 of 30 days of Henckel straights I got a much better shave today. Yesterday I knew my angle was wrong, but didn't know how to correct it. Today, it sort of fell into place. One thing I like about the smaller razor is that it is easier to maneuver in tight quarters. The thing I am not thrilled about is that it is a very light blade that skips sometimes. At first I thought the skipping was due to my lather being wrong, but it has more to due with the weight of the blade. I did three passes today and got a DFS, which is more than acceptable. DIY Pre-shave Oil ABC Face Lathered 24mm High silvertip set an extra 10mm deep 3 passes, WTG, XTG, XTG Sampsons All Natural Aftershave Balm 4/8 Round Toe Henckel 89 1/2 Thanks for the tip. I will keep it in mind. I am doing these 30 days precisely to answer that question for myself.
I thought the reveal of the blade on the Scientist looked better and the 34C was angled. What do you see?
March 27 - Polsilver Super Iridium day 1 Merkur 34C Polsilver Super Iridium day 1 The Phoenix brush DIY PSO Stirling Executive Man Alum/Thayers WH/Nivea SPSB Again went less and got more when it comes to lather. All my brushes seem to work so that means I am working better with creating lather. For me, I have noticed that looking at the lather that it would turn smooth looking and flowing like and that is the indication my lather is perfect. Love the Pinapple/Aventus scent of Executive Man. Made just enough for 4 passes and some touch up, give or take. The new blade was smooth but I felt it was not cutting. After my usual three passes I still felt some stubble in all the challenged areas. Some spots needed touch up twice but I did get the BBS. The blade was very good. the fact that it was so smooth and quiet was good. I just was looking for a better result. Then again, I had a super close shave yesterday so there wasn't as much hair growth today and I shaved about 3-4 hours later than usual also removing some growth time. I needed a shave but if this was a day off, I could have skipped. Alum was slightly biting which was expected with 3 passes and lots of touch up. In all, the Polsilver were nice but after the fact that a more aggressive razor seems to give me more leeway for a closer shave, I might need to investigate further for a different razor. I like that the Merkur 34C ( AKA HD) can be swung like a battleaxe on one's face and not get any cuts. The downside is that it takes more effort to get a close shave. I know the SS Flare tip and Tech are also mild but the price was right and I like their look so I purchased them to add to my den. What is everyone's opinion on the Rockwell 6S? $100 is steep to me but with all those plates, it might be the best way to get a new razor that will cover my medium aggressiveness desires.
