March 28 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush TSD Lanolin English Fern SS Gillette Starburst Stirling Unscented PSB TSD English Fern AS
Other than the fact it's a cheap and potentially very unreliable blade while the popsicle razors use blades of our own choosing.
March 28 - PolsSilver Day 2 - Working the Cg Merkur 34C PolSilver Super Iridium (Day 2) Dark Chocolate Brush (JR #148) DIY PSO Stirling Piacenza Alum/Thayers WH/ Nivea SPSB Haven't use Piacenza in some time so today I went with it. Do like the scent but it is very different from all the cologne scents I have. As usual, Dark Chocolate whipped up gobs of perfect lather even though it only was swirled for about 20 seconds on the soap. Have really been getting the knack for using less soap and getting great lather. today, it was silky and slick. Couldn't as for better. Ended up with enough lather for at least 4+ passes and touch ups. The shave resulted in a DFS+. The wife kicked me out of the shower just as I was about to start to shave. Out of my normal environment I was rushing a bit. In all, I see this blade performs well. Today I decided to try to hold the razor by the balance point with a narrow grip. I was able to control the angle fine. to me, this was like flying an R/C glider where the center of pressure coincides with the center of gravity. In a glider, this is desirable so that you get visible feedback as to turbulations and indications of lift and sink. To me, the razor angle would change if pressure increased. I was getting nice feedback of my pressure. I feel it helped me to keep the pressure light. In all, I had much less irritation. In fact, the cheeks had none while there was only light sting on the neck. In all, I think this alteration might need further investigation and could help me reduce irritation. In the past, the number of passes and the amount of pressure seems to be the prime reason for my irritation. Changing my hold to a narrow grip and relocating to the balance point might provide the feedback I need to help keep pressure light. Will see if this continues to bear fruit or was just an anomaly. I think the PolSilver is starting to show wear only so much as to differentiate it from new. It is not worn at this point. There isn't any indication, at this point, not to get at least a third day out of it.
So that's two votes for "someone honed it to death"... I rather suspected that was the case but had a faint hope I had acquired an incredibly rare experimental razor. . Mainly because I couldn't quite figure out how it would have ended up like that otherwise. Thanks for the explanation, Adam. It actually would make a not bad letter opener right now because it's as dull as a butterknife. The Puma is also quite dull; the other two are still sharp enough they might just need stropping to be shave ready.
Ok we have our ten brave souls (yes, I'm even counting RyX) PM me your address and I will get a razor to you by May. This will be fun!
