That's usually my problem. I don't know my limitations or have the good sense to stop before I reach them. With Wade here as a wingman, I have a feeling I will be paying for this in the morning.
-Lutters and Co 5/8 -Semogue 1800 -Stirling Glacial Margaritas in the Arctic -Stirling Glacial Lemon AS A less than stellar shave today. I had been polishing on the blade some and dorked up the edge a bit. I had touched it up a bit, but I didn't get it back to where it was before. I got my three passes done, but they weren't especially close or comfortable. It bugged me a bit because it was one of my best shavers. I will have to be rehone it before I use it again. That's why you own a bunch of them right?
Although Wade has a good eye for shave brushes, he may not be the best drinking buddy. He could enable you with alcohol as you enable him with shave brushes. BTW the morning is a long way off.
April 7, 2017... So since yesterday was my Friday I didn't do a daily shave. Which was OK, as it gave me two days worth of stubble for tonight's shave. Since it is the weekend, I could have skipped tonight also, but I was eager to try the Schick Eversharp Canadian E3 (as identified by someone here) again. So same setup as before, with tonight being the last night of the Dr. Jon's Savannah Sunrise. A different soap will enter the rotation for the next shave. So... 2-day stubble versus Schick E3 Injector w/ Schick blade (2nd use).... FIGHT! Round 1... WTG all over except for the upper lip which was XTG went smoothly. No nicks, no cuts, flawless... Score 0-1 Schick E3 Round 2...ATG all over except for the upper lip again which was a second XTG path. This time it looked like there might have been some nicks, but no weepers. Judges decision... Schick E3, score 0-2 Round 3...Face felt smooth overall except for some spots, so time for touchups. Touchups went well except for the neck/under jawline. Definitely got myself a few weepers here. This time round went to the face, score 1-2 The alum confirmed the areas where I felt I was getting some irritation and the areas that gave me the weepers, to be expected. And the Margaritas in the Arctic balm let me know I am still alive. Final score 1-2 in favor of the Schick Injector E3. Since switching to the Schick Injector, I have been filling my sink up with hot/warm water to rinse off the razor, since I am having to do it more frequently. So as I let it drain, I could see all the little stubble hairs sticking to the side of the sink. Gave me warm fuzzies knowing the injector was doing its job. Think I might skip tomorrow too and shave again on Sunday. Everyone have a great Saturday.
Ok, here is what I'm thinking- please let me know what you think. I will present a few brush designs that the '30 day crew' can give an opinion on. Hopefully the group can decide on a single design, but if not maybe I can come up with a plan B. I am willing to make the handles and provide the wood. I have a nice chunk of very figured maple that I have used for a few of the handles you've seen in my pics. I can probably get 10 more handles out of that or so. I will make the handles from either that, or another wood if you send it to me. I will provide the maple and make the handles without any cost. I think it is fair if I ask for the shipping to be paid to get the completed handles to you. I am dead set against any kind of profit here. It would really take away my joy at making these on my own timeframe. My original thought was to make a couple full brushes as examples and PIF them. I've changed that thought to just going right into the LE idea. As well, I've ordered a punch set so that I can customize them with some nice lettering. Perhaps, if this is a go, we could even look at a group knot purchase (good luck us all agreeing on a knot!) I can customize to depth, etc. Thoughts can come via here if you want everyone to see, or via PM if you only want me to see. Thanks!
What a generous offer. I think an LE for my favorite group of guys will be a favorite brush. Count me in! Thank you.
That is an extremely generous suggestion, Jason. And I suspect the most practical approach would be a single TSD 30 Day Crew LE brush handle design suitably lettered by you and then with each person installing their own preferred knot. Otherwise, good luck on getting a group agreement on a material type, size and loft (and make) of knot. Herding cats would probably be easier.
Yippee, I'm going home in the morning. The shave will be at 3:45am, so my blade is all stropoed and ready to go. Gotta love my Drygulch travel strop Good night guys.
