You can't hijack this thread. Ask away!

Marine polyurethane, perhaps? Wax? You can use anything you like, waterproof always good.

@Jayaruh does a lot of wood handles, he would be the one to ask. That's an awesome handle by the way.

I'll sound sappy too. I've witnessed LE buys on other forums and didn't purchase because they are not my home. This group and more specifically, my 30 day homies add joy to each and every day. This brush will be very special. Time for a group hug, sniff.

Coolest thing ever! You have my full support, lately me know what you need. This will be the only forum LE ever for me.

You'd be much better served with an answer from a pro. My own experience is that I do put a few coats of Marine Grade Urethane on my handles, and have not had any sort of problem. Untreated wood will deteriorate faster, in theory, based on tonnes of factors- type of wood, treatment of the brush, do you soak it, etc.

    Re: knots

If you order any tuxedo, I want in on that. This will be my only brush purchase for a while, and the tuxedo is the only knot that interests me. I have no supplies to set a knot. If you'd like a tuxedo for your LE handle, order 2 and it's on me. Just PM invoice me and I can wire it to you.

My 2 cents. I have one wood handled brush that had had a varnish that flaked off, so I rubbed it with a furniture or floor wax. It's been okay, although I rub another coat of wax on regularly on the theory that it will wear off. If I did it over, I would have coated it in marine urethane before setting the knot in the old handle.

I also have a lathering bowl that is a horn quaich - one of those medieval/Renaissance Faire shallow drinking bowls. It had not been dried properly after use as a drinking vessel once and started to delaminate in spots. I filled the raised separated spots with a waterproof glue and then used that glue as a coating. And then turned the drinking cup into a lathering bowl. The waterproof glue peeled off in a skin within a week. So I refinished the bowl with outdoor waterproof varathane. And after a month of use as a lather bowl, that also peeled off. So I took @jtspartan's suggestion, and refinished it with a couple thin coats of marine urethane. And after more than three months of further daily use as a lather bowl, the finish looks like new and the horn bowl remains as stabilized as a rock.

My opinion, for what it's worth -- marine urethane applied in two or three careful thin coats is the way to go for anything wood (or horn) that's going to be exposed to water, especially warm soapy water.

Uh-oh. Something is a little off around my house tonight. Not sure what the disturbance is but it may be serious. When I have difficulty with an Arko lather - well, let's just say I've called the police, Russian Secret Service, a psychic and scheduled an appointment with a therapist to talk me down. I decided to go with the Arko I have in an Old Spice mug and load and lather that way. Done it before. Many times. Usually just as easy and reliable as the stick to the face method. First pass lather was fine. The Semogue loaded just fine, lathered ok, no problems. Applied the second pass lather and before I could get halfway done with the right side it was gone. Ran away just like modern Williams. Might have even been a Marvy-esque disappearance. What the...... Once I reloaded the brush just a bit I got the usual lather going for the second pass but I really don't know where things went wrong. Could I have misjudged the boar due to using the synthetics recently? Maybe didn't load long enough? Not sure but I'm hoping it was just a glitch in the matrix. Not sure but I'm hoping it was just a glitch in the matrix. Hmmmmm.....deja vu!

Anyway, the shave itself was really nice. The Classic Super Stainless from Lord peformed perfectly at 3 on the Slim. The blade seems a bit more "visible" than the regular Super Stainless. Meaning I could feel it just a bit more but not in a bad way at all. Very nice shave.

The weekend is upon those of you who don't work it. Hope you have great Spring activities and fun planned!

    Arko after 8 shaves:

@NCoxSTL - another Cartel still life. Good two pass shave again today. The Parker would be fine as an everyday razor, or that's the verdict after eight tries. Voskhod, well you may have heard of this blade. 7 edges depleted, 23 great shaves remain in Awesome April. It's 81f in my garage at 22:22. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a Great Weekend!

This razor is several shaves in after being finished on a Shapton glass 16k. The universe was in alignment this morning, the edge was very smooth and sharp, the lather wet, slick and copious, spring has arrived and the flowers blooming. 4 passes and an epic shave.

I live in the middle of Seoul on small island near the national assembly building. The perimeter of our neighborhood is lined with cherry blossom trees and while the trees bloom there is a festival, with music, food carts and lots of people. I went for a walk this morning and enjoyed the sites and watching all the people, whole families, cute couples and lots of people taking pictures.

The feather weight is indeed a nice razor. I am interedted to see what you think if the OCMM. That is the razor that got me both into SE razors and forums. ( A big thanks to D. Irving79 wherever you are). I would suggest that you start with it flat against your face. That is how the original instructions say and what I find works best.
