This shave was under 10 min. Soaking the brush while I showered. Add in clean up time under 15 min easy.

I 'll be damned! How did you make such a nice, thick lather so quickly?! And no mess. Ok, i guess that i will have to try that. But not quite yet. I am too newbie and i am supposed to be in 30 days focus now. But, damn! That was quick! The bad part is exactly that you are veteran, i am newbie. I will surely take way more time to make the lather. And even with the Derby, i don't think i can finish so quickly. But i am certainly willing to try face lather after this video. Very impressive. :happy088:

Ok, tomorrow i have to make a better lather. What the hell, if you can make that lather so quickly on the face, i have to make at least a decent on in my super dog bowl!

I don't do prep. There is no need for an involved routine. Straight razor full shave in less than eight minutes if needed. You will become faster as you do it more.

A few times out of necessity I had to shave using cold water and I got good shaves. In fact, once I remember I using cold water with no brush, soap, or cream. Just a DE because I was in a rural area in Alberta in the middle of winter!

Use what you know, and change as few variables as possible. While bar soap or canned cream may be a lesser choice they will do. It's that information explosion of new soap, brush, razor, and choice of blades that has led many new shavers into the spinning carousal of too many new products to learn how to shave.

Dove soap is about as close as you can get to a shave soap without actually buying a shave soap. I use it _after_ my shave in the shower. It lathers up very quickly even without a brush, so it's a decent intermediate step. I've also shaved with it as a shave soap, so I know it works okay with a SuperSpeed. So a WeiShi will work fine with it.

I've told a number of new shavers to not worry about what they're using for lathering. If they want to use up their existing shaving foam, or gel, great! It's something they're already used to. Change up when you're reading, or at least have the time for it.

    (edit)
I've also suggested that people work on lathering with their new cream/soap/brush without actually bothering to put it on the face. The soap is relatively inexpensive, and it's a safe way to find out how they react.

All it takes is time. Do not want you to get too frustrated with things. You have the right idea about things.

Yup. What he said. Most prep is part of the ritual. I think atleast a good face wash helps though.

I call that a marine shave. What razor did you use if you can remember

Gentlemen, please tell me how this lather looks. 4th lather attempt, 1st with the dog bowl! The dog bowl felt AMAZING. It felt so slippery, that i think i made this lather in something like 30 seconds. It came out of accident, as i forgot to remove water from the brush. So i took the brush that was soaking in water and directly put it in bowl. At first, it was so bubbly, that i thought "too much water, this one is to throw away, i have to make new one". But soon enough, i started whipping it around and the bubbles disappeared. This is on the brush:

I don't know, but i think it's the best lather i 've made. Unfortunately, once on my face, 1) i could still discern my skin beneath, 2) by the time i moved to the left side of my face, it was dehydrating and by the time i went to moustache area, it was almost disappearing and had to put new. The good thing, i have more than enough on the bowl. It might be that my skin simply absorbs water too fast, i don't know.

So, according to you, how does this lather look???

It looks good, but if you had issues the other side, then you probably needed a bit more cream, less water. As I lather on the soap, I don't tend to worry about more or less water, but with creams, the others are right - it's use a little water, then add a few drops at a time till it feels right.

Mind you, if it works, who cares. I usually end up re-lathering several times, especially if I'm slow shaving, just because I want to :)

More cream? Wow, thanks. I thought it needed more water! LOL! I will keep this in mind for next time. It worked, alright, i just have to take the brush and put some more lather on my face. Fortunately, the lather was enough not for 3, but for 6 passes. The Omega 48 carries an insane amount of lather once loaded and there was more left in the bowl. Dog bowl FTW!

The density and water content look good. Since you are bowl lathering, you could lather and shave smaller areas, defeating the issue of dried out lather. The warmer the water is, the faster the lather dries out. Nice job today.

Ah, i didn't think of that! The water is very hot in deed! I soak the brush in very hot water, so that it doesn't get cold during the shave. So, that's what might be causing the dehydration! Thanks! Good point on areas too! :happy088:

I solved my irritation problem a few years ago by going to a total cold water shave. I'll admit it took a week or so getting accustom to the a.m. chill but now I look forward to the first exhilarating splash. But I do run my razor under hot water (and rinse) as I do not like cold metal.

That's a good compromise! I may try it myself! You get the reduced irritation of the cold water and the increased cutting power of the hot. Might be the best of both worlds!
