Between your discussion of kinetic energy and force and Neil's discussion of black holes and quantum physics, I am wondering if I am smart enough to participate in this thread!
You guys have been busy this afternoon! Speaking of physics, too bad nobody mentioned slant razors or the Gillette slide and the increased cutting efficiency of a scything stroke. So, in summary.... @NCoxSTL has shaved with nearly every DE blade and razor known to man, and there ain't much difference in between "most" decently-made razors and blades. So he will be transitioning shortly from our blade trial Czar to a full time stunt shaver! @BaylorGator can ski on trash can lids and 2x4s. I believe him. I've never had an ice cream man steer me wrong. @Norcalnewb is a crummy golfer, but he's been eyeballing the nice equipment anyway. @Bama Samurai is the resident physicist, but now we may also need to hire a dermatologist. He maintains that all razors are the same. I never disagree with someone that wears a katana and was raised in Alabama. @Shave Fu is gonna set up a designed experiment (aka the St. Louis Shave Off) between @Bama Samurai and Mantic59 to answer life's biggest question: "do blades really matter?" I've got $20 on Chris to win! Afterward, we're all going to @NCoxSTL's house for BBQ and Bass music. @PickledNorthern commented that blades matter less in aggressive razors and shavettes without those teeny, tiny little bumps in blade holder. Did I miss anything?
After re-reading Neal's post and Charlie's summation, I failed to see any mention of beer. You must be a fellow Irishman to assume so.
I think you pretty much covered the field. I would add that the entire blade / razor debate reminds me very much of the arguments on firearms forums about the most effective handgun calibre and the best type, make and model of handgun... and I expect it will be definitively settled around the same time. (For non-firearms people, the big debate particularly in American civilian, police and military handgun circles is which handgun calibre is better for battlefield/self-defence use against humans: 9mm Luger vs. .45ACP vs. Every new pistol calibre invented since. The debate started when the first two cartridges were both developed and rages unabated to this day. When were they invented you ask? A few years before WW1....). In short, good luck on ever coming to a unanimous agreement on this subject.
Nice summary and I'm afraid if we add in the slants it might create a quantum reaction that would destroy the known universe. We'd all just devolve down to the un-saponified contents of a jar of Route 66 soap prior to mixing. BBQ for the gang at Cartel HQ STL?? Bring it on. Just bring enough vodka for everyone. Now - as to my transitioning from blade Czar to a stunt shaver? Never gonna happen. Three reasons. 1. The Free Vodka 2. The guards assigned to HQ for my personal safety 3. The Czar's Personal Assistant Not necessarily in that order.
You have to read between the lines. I omitted @NCoxSTL's subliminal sales message - Come to St. Louis and buy a mattress at Apnea City. Wake up to great shaves every morinng after a good night's sleep on a TempurSagger.
Glad to know the subliminal message is working. However, no Tempur will be involved in your purchase. Well, wait, I do still have floor models. Ignore this post and continue absorbing the subliminal message. That is all.
Razor: Gillette Executive Gold Adjustable Fat Boy (F 1) 1960 Blade: Personna 74 Tungsten Plus (16) Brush: El Druida Te Vigilo w/Manchurian Soap: Jeeves Soap Turkish Bath Aftershave: Fine Platinum I used the Gillette Black Beauty Adjustable (R-2) 1971 for a week and it is a good razor. I find it light and the handle is a little to long for me. The Fat Boy, on the other hand is a much better fit for me personally. Heavier with a stocky handle just works for me. I hope everyone has and is still have a good Easter weekend.
Wait. There are people who have BBQ and music without beer? Say it ain't so. I'm pretty sure I'm being sucked into the black hole we were discussing before...
