Wow, that's really supportive of you guys! Maybe if I nick my jugular in MAYhem someone will hit the jackpot.

 

The most important factor is the quality of the steel. If it can't take and hold an edge it's a letter opener.

The geometry needs to be correct so when you lay it flat on the home, it is flat across the entire blade and honing it will produce the proper angle on the bevel.

After that it's all personal preference. Some prefer big blades, some smaller blades. Some prefer wedges while others prefer full hollow and others inbetween.

 

You gotta love Amazon. I was curious about Arko, so $3.40 and 2 days later it arrives at my door. No idea if I'll like it, but it couldn't get any cheaper, quicker, or easier. Bonus - I didn't have to see any exposed butt cracks poking out from atop some Walmart shoppers' PJ bottoms. Life is good.

April 19th

Back to the beginning, today's brush a Simpson Duke 3 in best was the first nice brush I acquired and the razor a Dovo Bismarck 2 was the first nice straight razor I purchased. The Dovo is several shaves in to touch up on a Zulu Grey and just off the pasted strops.

I could tell from the first pass this had epic potential, the lather was perfect and the edge very smooth and sharp. Four passes went so well and I had the time I did a final WTG pass. No blood, no irritation and regular faceturbating confirmed a long lasting (for me) dolphin smooth face, in short, an epic shave.

Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A

 

If you need popsicle sticks I've got plenty.

Just be thankful that Adam didn't pull a Schwartz. In The Christmas Story, Schwartz committed a huge breach of etiquette by skipping the Triple Dare and going straight for Triple Dog Dare. One thing's for sure...this 30 Day Crew sure is polite.

 

Oh he knows I'm a much easier mark than that. I will give him credit though....he has a conscience. Tiny, perhaps, but it's there. After I had officially acquired said item earlier this evening he did ask if he was a bad influence on me. I told him no, not at all. I suspected if I said yes I would hear the maniacal and evil laughter all the way from Baldwin City to STL.

I do have to admit we are a polite bunch. Laughter at the expense of others rarely lasts more than a year or two.

 

Mine came in today as well. Looks like it is ready to go.

 

Adding popsicle sticks to another risky shave is actually quite advance "May-hemery". Yes, I coined the term. I expect copyright payments.

 

Don't forget the WD-40.

 

Right now that seems like my best path to joining the May-hemery (the check is in the mail).
