This will be my last focus and straight razor shave until Monday. Tomorrow I leave for Kyoto and Arayashima (sp?) Japan. Today's razor is my unknown J West that was restored and honed by @gssixgun , it has some shaves on it and just saw the pasted strop. The edge is still silky smooth and plenty sharp. Four passes and a wonderful shave. I need to continue to improve my honing-fu, I am getting better but still not at the same level as the master. Irritation A+ Closeness A Smoothness A+ Sharpness A
Got a pleasant surprise when I got home from work- My 1/8" lettering set which was supposed to be here May 2-20 was in my mailbox. Looks like I can start playing with some lettering ideas earlier than I anticipated.
April 19 (Wednesday ) - Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 ) Alluminati Envy White brush Supply Provision Arenella Coast shaving cream Alum and Supply Provision Arenella Coast postshave balm I spent a long 8 hours today at a professional development seminar, then got home just in time to prepare for the night shift. A relaxing shave with some great-smelling product was a good break between the two. During the noon break in the seminar, I stopped into a nearby global village 3rd World handcrafts store and picked up a matte-glazed clay bowl from Indonesia to use as a new lather bowl. I had trouble the last couple days bowl lathering the Supply Provision cream in my rather slippery horn quaich and small high-polished steel bowl. I revisited the first cream tonight, and I was easily able to work up a great lather in the rougher textured Indonesian rice bowl. With a proper lather worked onto my face, the Rockwell 6s delivered a fine BBS in two passes. No complaint from the alum. The balm then completed a great shave and left me refreshed and ready for the night...
I don't think I have the entergy to read all the post I missed since yezterday. Anyone have the cliff notes?
As I told someone the other day, people here give me strange looks when I mention how much the pre work shave improves the night. Poor people.
We treat this as the party that never ends. It's a thread, sure, but the idea is just to have a place where new guys and more experienced guys can talk with no pretense. Cliff notes: We picked on each other like Brothers. @Shave Fu busted on my photo skills. I like his style! Guns @wristwatchb dared me to show data Some dudes shaved. Some of them helped other dudes learn to shave. Then we pick on each other some more Rinse Repeat
But, somehow, even if it gets a bit long... Every month a couple or three really make good progress on the road to blade nirvana. I am selfish. I take pleasure and satisfaction in watching others succeed in a skill endeavor. I know how good it feels, and I like to watch it happen over and over again.
