We really need a thread of ebay listings that are just hillarious. Preferably with the funny information posted rather than a link, so it doesn't disappear. Here is one I just bumped in to "I BELIEVE THE SET TO BE SALT AND PEPPER AS WELL AS MATCH HOLDER. THE MATCH HOLDER IS STAMPED GILLETTE ON TOP AND MADE IN THE USA. THE POUCH IS STAMPED GILLETTE MILITARY SET MADE IN THE USA. I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL IN THIS AREA BUT I BELEIVE THE SET TO BE WWII. THE POUCH HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS, BUT IT IS COMPLETE AND THE SNAP WORKS WELL. I BELEIVE THERE MAY BE ONE PIECE MISSING FROM THIS SET BY LOOKING AT THE LAYOUT OF THE POUCH"
:happy097 Gillette??? Never heard of em! Now what do you suppose they made during WWII? That's right! Salt and Pepper/Match Holder sets! :signs140
So as not to hijack this thread, I am starting a new thread called "Ebay Sellers". Please check it out.
one for a brush, one for a shave stick. It is a travel shaving set. Oh, and the match box is for blades.
I don't know about this idea, some members seem to take umbrage when links to eBay listings are posted. Oh, wait, you said "no lnks" didn't you? I guess you're one of those members.
Not sure if anyone else did, so I took the liberty of sending on a polite educational email to the seller, with a link to a previous thread that had one of these in pristine condition . . . Not everyone knows as much about either shaving or military memorabilia . . . though I must admit it's hard to imagine "milspec matching condiment sets". *grin*
I mean no offense to the seller. I just got a laugh out of it, and there are hundreds of equally funny auctions, share them if you see them. I know I could use the laugh.
Ah, but sellers should do their homework. And it is a Gillette product, says it on the item and in the listing. A simple search of "Gillette" is gonna at least tell you it ain't a salt & pepper set. I have enough homework of my own, I can't run around doing Ebay sellers homework, too. Either way, that was very considerate of you. Actually, sitting here thinking on this matter, I recall I contacted a lady who was selling a ton of straight razors on Ebay some time ago, but didn't know what she was doing. Boy,. she got nasty!
Oh, I didn't think you did. But I try to make it a general practice to correct sellers on eBay in my areas of expertise (or at least my hobbies) . . . which generally means coffee, computers, coins, books, etc.
I told Reynoldsart that a razor he had listed as a Norfolk was not a Norfolk He responded "Well then what is it?" Normal sellers I would help out, but this guy is as dishonest as they come, so I politely decided not to send the message I started to type that went something like this "Isn't that your responsibility as the seller? Do you just pick a name out of a hat, and leave it for the seller to decide weather or not you know what you are talking about? If you are not sure, I would recommend only listing the information that you know."
I get upset over all "Slims" they try to pass off as "Fatboys" ... That's my pet peeve... I contact the seller AND report them! I just LOVE the Fatboy! It's not the best shaver, not even Gillette's best shaver, but there is something about the design and the case that makes me happy... To me it's the epiphany of late 50's early 60's. I watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's" the other day and kept thinking of Gillette's Fatboy... it reflects the era so perfectly!
I've actually come across some of his listings. They all seem just generally shady to begin with . . .
Maybe this also qualifies in the category "silly" SOLID BRASS GILLETTE ADJUSTABLE RAZOR MADE IN U.S.A.
I think he is referring to the way it is listed. These razors typically sell for big bucks, but listing it like that makes it very hard to find. I scour pretty closely, but I missed it.
