    Have a great day!

Mountain Man is such a great scent. I think it pairs well with Florida Water. I can see myself getting a full tub and matching AS.

The Craftsman razor I picked up yesterday looked like it had a nice edge. I stropped it and made half a pass. Nope!
Pulled out a known good razor and proceeded to have a very nice shave.

Yeah, i m still laughing... :prrr:

Nice photo. The shavette ruins it. :happy097:

Nonsense! We like a good western just like the next guy! Not to mention Rambo. And Miami Vice for me, was the best cop series ever. Especially when they shoot in the middle of the street! I love it! I plan to order it on blu-ray! :happy097:

First, why do you think you don't post good photos? You just need to adjust your lighting a bit, that's all! Second, how did my dog bowl end up in your photo??? :happy097:

Clint, i think it's time you come out clean and reveal to your fellow forumers how come you make these photos. Why keep it secret? :happy096:

Nice one too. I will pretend i didn't see that old, not so shiny, razor.

Nice photo! Before scrolling down, i didn't even realize that this was a shavette handle! Very camouflaged. Shame i did scroll down. :happy097: Nice lather, but mantic59 says "no bubbles"!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Pseudofocus report:

    Weishi + Derby +Proraso blu +Omega49
    1) Almost perfect lather. Not quite there.
    2) After about 15 repasses on the easy surfaces, 25-30 on the more difficult ones (i counted 10 repasses on the moustache in the same pass), the result was: BBS above jawline, with small patches of DFS, BBS in small area below jawline, with DFS in most other area and Ok shave in 2 symmetric areas near the neck. I also used my left hand to tend the sking where possible (whereas i never had to with other blades). No visible irritation at the end, however i had a burning sensation in 2 symmetrical points for half an hour... The BBS areas persisted up until 12:50AM, at which point they evolved to DFS.

Conclusion: My technique has improved, mainly thanks to the sharper blades i used, that made me more careful. Still, the Derby just doesn't work for me in the Weishi. And it's not my idea or my bad technique. Because if it was, i would have the same results with all blades. This isn't remotely true. Will i stop using Derby on the Weishi? No, i have way too many Derbys, somehow i must bring them down. But i think that they will be mostly used in my DE89, when i start razor rotation. They just work better there. Can you cut down a tree with a knife? Sure. But lumberjacks prefer saws and axes for good reason. It's a bit the situation with Derby.

Before someone says that when i touch an Astra, Dorco or Shark SS, i get divine intervention and i can shave with much less effort, while when i touch the Derby, i become moronized and have to do 5 repasses per pass, i would add, that i am not alone... I have no idea if any of these is known for his good technique or not, however, they sure have been shaving for much more than me!

    1)
    Cons

    • Butterfly hinges is a little bit flimsy and loose (may be an issue in the long term)
    • You’ll need more passes to achieve a smooth shave

    2)
    3)

If i may add, i DOUBT they are using Derby! I think, Weishi + Derby, might be easier, on certain hair and with 1 day growth. I shave every 2 days and i have quick hair growth. Plus, the teflon on the Derby, makes them slippery. My oily skin makes them slippery and the lather too. Which is why i can do 10 pass buffing on the mustache without lather and it can't cut me. I think the whole thing becomes too slippery and with 2 day growth, the hair is longer and instead of being always cut, it just bends and the razor passes over it. The cutting problem becomes apparent mainly ATG, where the Derby moves entire segments of my skin, because it keeps tugging hair. Hence why i had to use my left hand to tend the skin.On my skin WTG, the Derby can't cut me. I can do S manouvers, L shape manouvers, nothing. It's like as if there is no razor. The only thing i haven't tried yet is to make circles on the skin (yeah, that might be bad idea). I can go 10 times without lather ear to jawline in 1 stroke and won't even think about nicks. That's a great property for the newbie that fears the blade. Not a good one for someone who is past that and wants a shave.
For me, the Weishi is a very good razor, especially if you want to go out without nicks, but it needs sharp blades to do the job reasonably quickly. I 've read people rating the Shark SS below Derby. Frankly, for me, the Shark SS is a quite efficient blade in the Weishi, certainly more than the Derby. The Dorco and the Astra are one step above yet.

Proposal: Stop the easy "Arko Challenges" (what's challeging about Arko???) and next month, do the "Weishi-Derby challenge"! Leave 2 days growth and start posting your raving reviews of the unforgettable 3 pass shaves that this combination will offer you!

P.S.: Interesting note: My barbers' association shop has a ranking of blade characteristics. Dorco ST301 is rated higher in sharpness than Astra SP. I doubt it, but just shows that i was right that this blade wasn't even remotely in the same category of Derby. They also praise Dorco for using the most advanced technology in the production. Of course they are a very Derby-heavy website, but i think this has to do with particular commercial ties they might be having with Derby. To the point they say that the favourite blades of their staff are Derby Extra and Perma-Sharps.
