I'd have to say vintage. Out of every DE I've tried, I always come back to my Pre-War Fat Handled Gillette Tech. It shaves like a dream. Although, my first DE was the Edwin Jagger 89 and that was a marvelous razor as well .
While I can't understand why someone would want a modern version of a vintage razor with inferior materials for more money (Merkur and EJ), there are a few interesting modern razors, the Supply SE, the Bunny, the chrome Rockwell for example..but mostly vintage for price and quality. @jmudrick - I can think of lots of reasons why people would buy new rather than used. Inferior or not, it's "new", which to some people automatically means "better". That's why "New Improved" ends up on a lot of soap, even if it wasn't changed, or the change was WORSE. (Removing phosphates from detergent, for example). So they'll buy what they perceive is better, because it's new. Many of the other razors are difficult to locate, or are extremely expensive. (new ones). Another reason is that people don't want to deal with cleaning/polishing/lubricating/renovating an old one, or getting one with plating loss at all.
Lubricating?? People are entitled to make their own choices but when I know I can can get a pristine brass Tech or a Krona for half the price of a new EJ89 or Merkur 34C that will always be my recommendation for friends getting started with wet shaving. If folks want new for the sake of new a $6 Ming Shi or a Lord fits that bill. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Do y'all argue with your television like I do? I taught my children to be skeptical about anything New & Improved. If we were watching a TV show together when the commercials came on it became a group effort to pick the ads apart and understand where The Marketing was trying to deceive.
I like the attitude of the series of Lady with her tag along good natured colon. The one with the prolapsed pink knee high bladder makes me shudder.
I don't watch much tv, but the huge list of high speed side effects is usually laughable. "This product has a side effect list that includes death."
When I was a kid, drugs commercials were not allowed at all. I still think that was a good idea. But pharmaceuticals have the money and power to influence the decision makers. So now we have them too.
i cut the cable off years ago as i was tired of paying to watch commercials every ten minutes.work ,hobbies, vintage razors, netflix, you tube videos, take up my time now.
What I love is that you can mention the drug's name or the specific condition, but not both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Newspapers, magazines, and printed media is fading. Since Digital took over Analogue broadcasting it's useless to use an antenna. Cable and Satellite are starting to suffer for the Millennials (and others) cutting the cable. Give me a Broadband connection & I can find plenty of entertainment.
Because unless you partake in a forum like this, you don't know that there are usable vintage razors out there. I didn't when I first got into DE wet shaving. You search Amazon or even go to a place like Maggard's and what do you get? New razors.
If it helps, antennas work just fine. There's basically no difference between a digital signal and analog signal for the bands that the antennas can pick up. In fact, those huge 3 foot antennas on top of the house? They're perfect for the digital signals. You need approximately _30_ inches to pick up (VHF or UHF, I don't remember which) signals properly, which means those teeny square antennas? They don't do it. They need to be at least 30 inches on one side. I just stuck a big set of rabbit ears on a TV, and lo and behold, some of the channels that hadn't been coming in started coming in fine.
My Mohu Leaf works just fine in my basement. I cut the cord long before it became the popular thing to do, and the new digital channels more than suit my needs. Watching reruns of Small Wonder, Mr. Belvedere, MacGyver, and more.
Honestly, I'm looking at ending up with Comcast. AT&T won't stop raising my rates, constantly. For 6 megabit DSL and a single phone line with no additional services (I use it for a fax and to have an emergency copper line), my home phone bill is now $99 per month. Comcast is offering an Xfinity 25 megabit and local TV channels (plus music channels) for $60 per month with no contract. $50 per month with contract.
You are in Metropolis. I'm in Mayberry. Might catch Beaumont or Lafayette stations. The Lake Charles local is a poor offering. With my in-town broadband I stream any TV show live or previous episodes, and just about any movie ever made. My night time TSD viewing tends to have Morgan Freeman's Through the Wormhole or Ancient Aliens as background noise.
