Okay, I got a reply to my email from Andrew Palombo at APShaveCo. Here it is: ALPalombo from APShaveCo sent you a conversation on April 22, 2017. 24mm Tuxedo or Cashmere knots That's awesome John! I'd definitely love to be a part of it. My bulk pricing is as follows: 15 knots - 20%off 20 knots - 25%off 25 knots - 30%off 50 knots - $500(USD)shipped These prices can be mixed and matched with any of my knots. However, if you reach the 50 mark and there are a lot of 30mm tuxedo requests I'd have to adjust the price according as the $500 quote is for any of my 22/24mm knots. Hope thats all clear, but let me know if you have any additional questions sir! All the best, Andrew *********************** So, the discount starts at 15 knots minimum and is 20% (roughly $4.40 per knot) and it applies to any mix of knots. If some people want Tuxedo and some Cashmere, that's fine as long as we hit the minimum. And if we don't hit the minimum, then standard pricing applies, and the knots are still the same price each.
Tell you what: Count me in. I probably don't want it set into that handle, but I'll buy a Cashmere anyway. Gets me a little break and gets you guys closer to the mark. I have a few handles it could go into.
Any more feedback between the tuxedo & cashmere? If the Omega handle is a keeper, I may go that way. If it's a cheapie, then boar it is. Omaha!
Razor: Gillette Executive Gold Adjustable Fat Boy (F 1) 1960 Blade: Personna 74 Tungsten Plus (22) Brush: Rubberset #4 w/Cashmere Soap: Jeeves Soap Turkish Bath Aftershave: Fine Platinum
Both have users who seemed to like them, including a few names I recognized from TSD here. At this point, I would say it looks like Cashmere is a little softer but both have decent backbone, so I am thinking you just pick based mainly on looks -- Cashmere gives you a knot that resembles boar and Tuxedo gives you a darker knot that resembles, uhm, Tuxedo?
Actually, @jtspartan, please put me down for a Cashmere knot too. I think it would look really good in your maple handle. But add an extra Tuxedo knot to the order for me as well. I seem to be getting in the habit of picking up vintage handles that need reknotting so I could use an extra anyway, and a discount is always nice.
Hmmm...I have to do a 2nd shave with Dorco... Lately everyone i see with Dorco, strangely nicks himself. I did, but i was sloppy. NickShaves did, you did, the guy in the Amazon review i posted did. I am starting to wonder about whether they really are sharper than most people think, but don't appear to. For me, the Dorco 301, was the most smooth shave i 've had, up to the point that i realized that i had a small nick and a bit of irritation. It was very slick blade, cutting while very light. Astra was also very sharp, but it was giving more feedback. With the Dorco, it was like it was barely touching you, yet you suddenly had no stubble and out of nowhere a nick... But it was just 1 shave, i will have to repeat. I will soon have 300 of them, i 'd better make them work without nicks! But, i don't think i want to put this blade in the DE89. The milder the razor, the better...
APShaveCo needs to update/edit their website details. It clearly reads 10+, but only on the Cashmere page. Not fussing since we may work up a more that 1 knot/person order. Tthank you @Screwtape for breaking trail!
Your in luck I found the spare. I will get a box for it and mail the Burma Shave Mug goodness to you. Sorry I am keeping the soap.......
COTUS, is had not heard that one before. I will appropriate that one if you don't mind. I'll go with the group decision on the knot.
Who am I kidding here? Now after my 147th post deliberating what knot to use, @Screwtape interjects a blinding glimpse of the obvious. Order me one of each, Jason @jtspartan, but don't set them in the handle. I will find a use for both of them and the omega, even if I have to drill out a kitchen utensil or the toaster for a custom handle. I feel a project coming on. Besides, this solution gets everyone (myself included) closer to the discount. Done. Hut, hut.
