It occured to me that if you want hot lather and the ability to control the heat, why not use a Crock Pot? It works fantastic and you can get them as small as 1 Qt. Mine is 1.5 Qt. and I got it at Target for $ 8.00!

I still am against plugging things in in the bathroom while shaving. I like to keep it simple.

I have to agree with Jay on this. Mixing electrical products and water are a recipe for disaster.

At another forum, I had mentioned using an electric vegetable steamer to heat towels for shaving, and although it works really well, the idea was not too well received.

Crockpots, however, are designed for an environment in which they may come in contact with water.

Plenty of stuff gets plugged in in bathroom, usually right next to the sink.

I say, use common sense. If you have a football field worth of counter space, go for it. If you have a pop-tart size counter, I wouldn't suggest plugging in appliances in the bathroom.

I just see it as having to add another thing to a shave that doesnt have to be there. I'm at the point of making it as easy and simple as possible. And the only thing that gets pluged in in my bathroom is my tooth brush charger and hair clippers once in a while. Nothing while the sink has running water.

Is hot lather really worth the bother?

Have you tried it? It's definitely worth it.

I fill the sink with hot water and stand the shaving mug in it. It's warm but not particularly hot lather though.

I may have to try a scuttle.

I've never used a scuttle, but I don't think you'll find it any different than a mug in a sink full of hot water. That's essentially all a scuttle is...probably more convenient though.

If you haven't used a scuttle, how can you compare it to a sink full of hot water? There's no comparison, especially when you consider that this scuttle has adjustable heat. And at $8.00 you really should try it. I spent more money watching a movie last week!

Huh? First of all, a scuttle IS a sink full of hot water, albeit a small sink. How different could it BE?! And I wasn't comparing a scuttle (or a sink) with your electronic marvel. Which isn't a scuttle anyway; it's a crock pot.

I agree with Michael. I enjoy the lather I get without a scuttle and having it warmed. If I were going to purchase a scuttle to keep my brush warm between passes, it would be a ceramic one. Not a crock pot. Theyre meant for stews, not my vulfix.
