Doug, thanks for the kind words. I really like the SC, as it gives a very close shave. Best I can tell, it was NOS when I purchased it. It still had the Gillette cardboard insert between the top and bottom plates.

Have a nice weekend, Doug! :)

Thanks Jim. After only four shaves with it, I'm very happy with the SC. And @Jayaruh did a fantastic job on the brush!

I agree with you on that soap. It's a perfect balance. I think more menthol would have overwhelmed the pineapple. It is on deck for my pain stick shave.

Does the "How many pairs of shoes do YOU have?" question work?
With my Ex-SWMBO it was George Foreman type electric appliances. She "collected " 12 or 16 of them, but didn't made me sammiches. At least you use your brushes.

Have you tried a couple drops of your planned AS added to the lather?

    Two shaves in one...

    May 4, 2017 -

I didn't have a lot of time, so I had to shave quickly. I decided on using some Nivea in a can, and I honestly felt a bit dirty using it. Not like I felt like people would make fun of me, but I just didn't feel like I was getting the best shave. Never-the-less a single ATG pass did a satisfactory job and some touch up with the witch hazel finished me off. Some splashes of more fine witch hazel on the face, and I was good to go. Some spritzes from Invictus (my favorite cologne) and I was getting dressed and off to the symphony to see Wagner's "The Flying Dutchman."

Oh, and happy Star Wars day to everyone. May the 4th be with you.

    May 5, 2017 -

Tonight's shave I could take my time. I decided to use my citrus theme again, and loved every minute of it. Two passes with some witch hazel touchup and I was good to go. No nicks, but I had a bleeder from a cut pimple. Such is life. Using my off head was again an interesting experience, but no nicks or cuts, and I did fairly well. Though I did use my strong hand for the touch ups on the left hand side.

Drill weekend, so I'll be working both days, so two more days of shaves coming up. I might have to switch blades soon, but so far this one is going strong.

Now to think about if I want to get a Jet Black SP Injector razor.

    Happy Friday!

I can't add much to the advice already given. My top suggestions are as follows:
    1. Blades can smell fear. Be calm and relaxed.
    2. Watch the angle. 20-30 degrees should work.
    3. Stretch the skin.
    4. Slow easy strokes. No rush.
    5. The only injuries I have had are from rushing the landing of the blade. Do it gently.
    6. No shame in only doing your cheeks the first time. Stop if you struggle on the curvy bits.
    7. Lather up again if the lather starts to dry out because you are taking your time.
    8. Have fun

I have learned a lot by trying these silly stunts. It has even helped me with my straight razor skills. Like others have already mentioned here, by practicing technique I can shave with pretty much any type of blade, if I follow the above steps.

    You can do this

That's my first bit of advice to anyone trying wet shaving in general, or a new to them razor. Do the easy parts WTG. Stop. Take a few breaths, relather. Now if you feel froggy keep going. Otherwise finish up with a familiar razor.

Especially with a shavette type. Those blades are thin & exposed and like to dip. Slow & steady. It's not a race. Sure there may be blood on steel, but you are the Master of the tool.

As long as you do not damage the edge the most you will ever need is a finishing stone. The pasted strop will also allow to go a while before even using a finishing stone to touch up the edge.

Just a couple more things to add.
    1) If you drop an open blade razor, let the thing fall. Do not try and catch it, or break its fall.
    2) Consider some protective gear, just in case you do drop it. Shorts, and some kind of shoe that covers the top of your feet. (This isn't advice I actually follow, but I will pass it along because it makes sense.)

Its honestly going to be way easier than you think. Just relax, and have fun.

I had a chance to lay out some of my MAYhem tools. I'll fit all of these in the rotation. I have another one planned but need to figure out how to build it first. It might be a fun one

    Saturday Shave

Today's razor, my PRC kamisori is the razor I chipped the edge. The first attempt to hone is was a failure so I went it at Friday night. I reset the bevel with two layers of tape and that seemed to do the trick. Worked up the progression finishing with a Shapton glass 16k. It looked good under the loupe and was tree topping arm hair.

This honing attempt was better than the last one but fell short of where I want it to be and where it was before I chipped the edge. The edge was kind of smooth and felt sharp but short of my standard on both attributes. Still I was able to do four passes and finish with 2 tiny weepers, light feedback from the alum and just short of dolphin smooth. I will make another attempt on this razor when I break out the stones again.
