    Good news, bad news

The bad news? Due to huge downpours, my son's sports tourney was cancelled today.

The good news? I used the gift of time to make three 30DC LE handles...

Off to try the Sayuri, it sounds like it hasn't been so successful for folks so far!

Beautiful, Jason! Seeing them like that makes me wonder if the top of mine should stay natural too? Ever done one that way? What are your thoughts?

Haven't shaved yet. Based on everyone's results, I took some pictures with my USB microscope. Top picture shows that the factory grind didn't quite have the bevels meet at the tip. That's why it wasn't cutting hair. Bottom picture is after 5 minutes on an Arkansas black. Notice the edge doesn't have the white line at the tip. Bevels meet, treetops arm hair. There is a secondary bevel you can see in the second picture. This is a very soft steel.

I plan on shaving after I get my girls to bed, so the post will be up tonight.

Too late for these! Painted an hour ago. I'd like to keep them all the same on the bulb for an LE look, Randy.

I'm curious to see how the soft steel holds up throughout the shave. IIRC, someone (@DDuckyMark?) tried sharpening a Tiger blade only to have the edge disintegrate due to the softness of the metal.

Perfect, I think that they look great that way anyway Jason!

The amount of knowledge here is ridiculous. I guess I'm just used to that now, and just think "that makes sense and would explain everything" about this post. Then I step back and think "who uses microscopes in order to verify they perfectly honed a really poorly manufactured blade, and then evaluates it against the original?" Love it!!

I guess they stripped out all the unnecessary frills in the manufacturing process -- like heat treatment...

Jim, my brushes may be sitting on a doily and my Man Card may be revoked, but I ordered the 400 handle today without asking my Bride. :p

    1.jpg

Full disclaimer, my Bride and I don't hide purchases from each other, and I know you don't as well. Your Man Card is still in full effect. :happy088:

So, I just came clean with my Bride and told her I ordered the 400 handle. She said "did 'ya?" and went back to watching TV. She was looking for the Kentucky Derby replay. Timing is everything, my friend. :happy097:

    Details, details.

Btw, I guess I left that one out of my own shave report: when I pulled the razor out of the paper wrap, the blade slid halfway out of the handle and the metal stiffening rod with it. I slid them back in, then crunched down on the holder a bit with the pliers from my Swiss Army knife to crimp them back in place...

Adam, I'm good for awhile on brushes. Nine is really too many for me, although I'm guessing that some folks here have and enjoy many more than that. I've PIF'd brushes to friends over the past few years to stay somewhere around 5 or so. I've got a couple in the rotation now that may eventually get PIF'd.

I am also looking forward to the 30DC LE, though. It will always remind me of the good times I've shared with my 30 Day family...sniff...sniff...
