A few Shavy housekeeping questions for the 30DC:
    1. Is there anyone out there who hasn't shaved with the Japanese pain stick and reported it yet? Awards in this category (which is subject to, and will change today) are getting posted soon. I'll try and wait for everyone to weigh in, but the clock is ticking on this one.
    2. Anyone nominated for the "What's the worst that can happen?" award should post themselves or others who report their first shave with any new open type razor in the Shavy Awards Thread, as I can't really weed through all the posts here to find them. I remember a couple, but not the bulk of them. This award, unlike others, gets an automatic nomination to all who qualify. Therefore, to encourage others, I will nominate myself, however the Academy has made it clear that the nomination is symbolic only, and I will not be taking home a shavy.
    3. @Linuxguile, I want to get your category and prize on the board, I just don't understand what the category is, or the story behind the nomination. Please let me know at your convenience, as I'd love to put it up along with @wristwatchb 's nomination.

Super sweet razor. I agree with you, that while shavettes aren't the same at all, if you start with shavettes, straights are a piece of cake.

The DX is really a beautiful razor. Mine is, like yours, the razor I am most likely to catch myself with. With a little care though, it is a perfect shave every time.

Congrats on an awesome first straight shave. I didn't figure you were going t have any trouble, since you have been using the Weck. When are you getting another Straight?

    Yesterday:

    -Sayuri razor typed thingy
    -DeRuitem 22mm Finest
    -Stirling Glastonbury Sheep Soap
    -Stirling Port au Prince AS

Like most of the others here, I had little success with the Sayuri. Not having the ambition of Adam, or a lot of extra time, I gave it a college try on one side of my face. Some buffing type strokes would sort of accomplish some reduction, but were also leading me to using scary amounts of pressure, and some bad landings, so I left off for another day, and rescued with the Supply SE.

My first Mayhem shave was a strikeout. Well, actually it was my second Mayhem shave. The first took place in a really scary hotel bathroom I ended up landing in thanks to a blind Expedia booking made from my phone, sitting at a rest stop. The sanitary conditions of that dump definitely qualified as questionable. I am still waiting for the lab results to see what sort of diseases I acquired on that one. My money's on Hep B, but the sky was the limit at that place.

    Today:

    -Portland Razor Company - Hydra
    -Thater 4125 3 Band
    -Haslinger Sage
    -Stirling Port au Prince AS

I ordered this razor built with a shorter blade, because I enjoy the nimbleness of the Feather sized shavettes. Oh boy, do I ever like this one. It is a perfect size, and the edge they put on it was the best one I have had sent to me, especially out of the box. It took seven weeks to get it, but it was worth the wait.

Haslinger is a soap that doesn't get a lot of mention, but it really is a performer. If the scents were a little stronger, I would call it an all around top tier soap. The sage is nice and fresh, and I got a great slick lather out of it.

Just stunning Mark. This brush was the one that inspired me to get a translucent red brush made.

Welcome back Jared. The Portland Hydra looks fantastic. I hear you on questionable hotel rooms. I used to travel over 40 weeks a year and I've had the same thing happen to me.

As soon as I learn how to maintain this one properly. I'm going to focus on this one instead of diving into RAD. I'm not going there until I can take care of them on my own.

Personally, it sounds like Brian, in discovering the Sayuri razor, may have stumbled into a cross-cultural rabbit hole usually occupied by the likes of the "Quick Tiger" blade. In other words, a bad Chinese knockoff of what was probably already a questionable piece of shaving apparatus.

It's exciting to see someone do so well on a first straight shave. I did a thirty day focus with my Feather SS before straights and didn't have anything close to what you just did. Congratulations!

I remember saying that same thing once, not very long ago. You'll have it figured out in ten days, and be glued to Ebay.

Beautiful razor. How much shorter did you have them make it? I agree about PRC edges. Mine was the best factory edge yet.
