No worries. I just didn't want you to think I'd blown off addding the cateory. If you can attach an inspriational event or thought to pair with your nomination, I'm trying to attach these with each nominee.
New rule. If you donate a shavy award and tie it to a category (a trail blazed by @Linuxguile) you achieve academy membership and may elect to choose the winner of said award if you so desire. To do so, you need to let me know before the Awards ceremony June 1 (or whenever I get around to it). Academy members wishing to tie an award to a prize, are not eligible to win that prize (obviously) but may be nominated for the category and eligible for others to award a "dissenting award" in June. Clear as mud?
I would be careful about taking photos. You may get a knock on the door from the Secret Service. Sent from my phone using some app
New Winners, New Nominees, New Categories. Congrats to all involved! Here's the current award categories, nominees and winners, as announced. If you wish to contribute your own prize to the Shavys, feel free to post in the thread or PM me. I'm not looking for these actively at the moment, but it may be necessary if the awards categories go out of control. You'll be responsible for sending out the prize to the winner if your prize is chosen. Also, after the Shavy award ceremony in early June, if you decide to award your own affirming or dissenting prize to winners or nominees who didn't win, you may do so, as long as you can follow up with a PM to the winner and send it out to them. Updates on this thread will be posted to the board. AWARD CATEGORIES: Best Pre Mayhem Motivational Act Nominees: @jtspartan for his 30DC brushmaking project The Shavy Goes to: @jtspartan MAYhem Trailblazer Award (i.e. most significant contribution to the field of mayhem) Nominees: @Drygulch , for his attempt at the "blade taped to finger" shave @wchnu for his 2 pass shave with a blade epoxied to a twig Most Ill Advised MAYhem Idea of 2017 Nominees: @Drygulch , for his attempt at the "blade taped to finger" shave @wchnu for his 2 pass shave with a blade epoxied to a twig Most Successful Shave with the Item Least Suitable for Shaving Nominees: @wchnu for his 2 pass shave with a blade epoxied to a twig @Drygulch , for his attempt at the "blade taped to finger" shave What's the Worst That Could Happen? Shavy to Be Awarded: Shick Korona provided by @Linuxguile Nominees: @wristwatchb Evil Genius Award Nominees: @Keithmax for his "doghouse misdirection scheme"
Just a note, I am providing prizes and will ship them out for the "What's the worst that could happen?" category. I have about 12 1 ounce pucks of Dirty Deeds shave soap I purchased for this. If we don't get more people eligible for the category by the end of the month, I will open it up to anyone who shaved with an open blade razor, rather than just people who did it for the first time.
The Academy wishes to thank @Linuxguile and @Drygulch, @jtspartan and @Keithmax for their generous donations of Shavy prizes. As such, the Academy is thrilled to award each of them a 90 day honorary membership to the Academy with all the rights and privileges thereof. (So far potential liability in any ensuing lawsuits, and incurring the cost of mailing out your own award are all that comes to mind at the moment.) -- Again, I'm not currently soliciting donations, and there is no need for anyone to feel compelled to do this at the moment, but stopping the generosity of others around here has been something I've been quite unsuccessful at, so I'm just going with the flow. Also, by tying their awards to the category they created, @Drygulch and @Linuxguile have achieved another Shavy first. Both the awards mentioned above lend themselves well to this, and the Academy is supportive fully supportive of the idea in both of these categories. In general, however, the Academy would like to limit the "prize tied to category" awards to only where it makes sense. This allows us to "spread the wealth around", reward as many folks as possible with the prize they want, offer up as big a selection of prizes to each winner as possible, and keep things simple. As Bartles and James used to say, "Thank you for your support!"
No you wouldn't. She listens about as well my teenage son. I know she hears me cause she wags her tail and ignores me. Sent from my phone using some app
I propose the following category: Best Candid Photo Of Significant Other's Response To A Mayhem Shave. I will provide a surprise prize to the winner, the nature of which will be at my discretion and not very expensive. It may or may not be shave related. Or it may be both shave and not shave related. AWESOME IDEA! I love it. Going up on the board today! I'm up for suggestions for a short quippy name for the award. Maybe the "Married Over His Head" or "Married Out of His League" Award? Not sure I love either of these, but it's a start.
