Tried the PAL today. Definitely did not rub the blade on the guard. I'm just not sure these Chicks are for me. I still feel some tugging, especially on the first pass. 3+ passes only gets me to CCS. Have tried 2 different Injectors with similar results... have to spend some more time with these, but I don't think it will be tomorrow. I don't think there is much different I can do technique-wise, but I could be wrong I suppose. Will go back to a DE for a day or two. Very 'unfocussed', I know, but I just haven't enjoyed my shaves this week.

In unrelated news, I stayed up late last night watching the results of our Provincial Election and had some relaxing '1st coat on some brushes time'....

They need to be sanded between coats...but a good start.
    Have a great day all!

Sorry the shave did not go well. If you have another injector give it a try.

On a positive note, the handles looks fantastic.

Those handles look amazing Jason! Also when shaving with the injector are you starting with the top of the head flat against your skin? from there you only need to come down with the handle a couple of degrees to be in the sweet spot.

@RyX - I've been thinking about the blue creme soda and boudin lately. I really need to get down to Louisiana soon! One of my colleagues, the choir teacher at my school, grew up in Louisiana and talks so fondly of it. Her grandparents lived on the levee and she lived nearby. Her descriptions of their family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving, are hilarious. 70+ people in one shotgun house, spilling out into the yard, etc. Good times.

So good to hear you are OK now. Once you catch up on the thread, the pain killers wear off, and you confirm you aren't on blood thinners, you should join the shianegans.

I THINK I am, Andrew. Basically the Injector version of Riding the Cap. I'll try to really dial in that angle a little more when I go back to these razors. It is smoother where my hair is not as course, but gets tuggier on my lower cheeks and jawline where my hair is thicker.
On a positive note, am getting no irritation!

    May 10, 2017- Dorco, again!

    Razor: NDC Post-War Tech
Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum STP-301 (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today's shave is a journey back into the confusing land of Dorco blades. As you may recall from previous posts, there are three basic versions:
    • STD-301: The "dollar store" OEM blade
    • ST-301: The familiar red/white packaged ones (ST-300 are supposed to be the same in different packaging)
    • STP-301: The Dorco Prime Platinum blade (with double Teflon coating for smoothness and longevity)
My experiences, so far, with the first two have been mixed. Personally, I found the STD-301 from Family Dollar to be tuggy and uncomfortable (though I know @wchnu considers them to be a "go to" blade). OTOH, I found the ST-301 to be a decent, comfortable blade. Courtesy of Andrew, I now have the chance to try the flagship STP-301. Since my most recent experience with a Dorco blade was last week's Tech mini-focus, I pulled out the post-War Tech for today's shave.

To be honest, I'm not sure what to say about this blade. It definitely was a smooth, comfortable shave with no signs of tugging. OTOH, I think the Tech might have been too mild a razor for this blade. Tomorrow's shave will probably go with the Fatboy or the 40's SuperSpeed. Overall a definite DFS with no irritation though I'm not sure that it's quite as close as I would get with other blades.

One final thought- I'm not sure, but it seems like the post-shave feel is different than with the ST-301. The Prime Platinum feels about like I would expect while the regular ST-301 leaves a feel more like I'd expect from a cartridge shave. I'm guessing that something is going on there between blade coatings and/or grind angles.

Interesting observations, John! I look forward to seeing how this blade progresses for you.

The first time I used an injector, I realized the angle was different than a DE, from the perspective of holding the handle at a different angle. If you haven't already tried, turn the water and fan off, and put the razor at the top of your cheek, with the head on your cheek and the handle tilted upwards. Slowly bring it down as you move the razor down your face. You will hear it start cutting, keep moving it until it isn't pulling, and listen for the sound when it hits the sweet spot. If I remember correctly, the handle was just past parallel to the floor when it started cutting, and only a little lower on the sweet spot. Try to maintain that angle on the rest of your face. Remember to do skin stretching as well, as the heads on the injectors won't hold the skin as tight as the safety bars on a DE.

@clint64 - I see where I-85 is opening as early as Monday? That was incredibly fast repair. I know it's been a hard few weeks for the Atlanta roads.
