    Today's shave was nice. I used the new vintage brush side by side with a pure badger (not silvertip, just pure). The mixed performed equally with the badger pure. The only time I could feel any hint of the gen 1 synthetic, was during my swirling motions. It wasn't prickly, but I could barely feel the nylon bristles. They made and delivered lather easily, and the painting strokes were equal as well. TSD iced pink grapefruit performed very well, I should use it more often. Perfectly scented, cool, cooler when bombed. The variant delivered a smooth comfy shave. BBS, but I was smooth late into the afternoon with yesterday's great shave. Finished with a hat trick, alum,alcohol wash,lotion rub. Very nice shave.

    Very nice David. I am seeing quite a few of the Parker Variant. Is it a Merkur Progress clone/copy?

    Not a clone, a similar head, but matched with a differently weighted and longer handle. I'd say it was tweeked enough to have it's own place.
    Personally, I struggle a bit with the longer handles. I think a shorter handle variant would be nice. But that would make it clone'ier. So I'll work to get more comfortable with the longer handles. I have three (variant, super adjustable, matador cc) that come to mind, that I have to concentrate to bring home the baby. There's always tomorrow, Lord willing.

    Another wonderful shave. I am getting quite comfortable with this home-made SR. Very smooth. I feel I am neglecting all my other SRs. (I think they are starting to get jealous).

    Last night I decided to move my MAYhem shaves to the Shovelhead. I trimmed the tabs on a Dorco Prime Platinum DE blade and carefully slid it down against the stops. I had a fear that the blade would slip while shaving, but whats the worst that could happen ? Fortunately the blade was held firmly when the door is closed and no slipage occurred. There was however a lot of chatter from the blade while shaving. Luckily I had the super protective Route 66 lather going for me, I kept to no pressure and stayed on the cap and ended with a very nice close shave. Not as close as with a GEM blade, but there was no blood or irritation, so I'll happily take it! Have a great day my friend!
