When Hurricane Katrina did her dance on New Orleans lots of folks fled. Some never came back. That got Cajuns requesting products at their new locations, and grocery stores. If you've eaten rice dressing like Popeye's Chicken sells, it's sort of a loose boudin. I've seen Zummo's brand outside of the state, not the best but acceptable. Check the hamburger helper section for Zatarain's to make rice dressing or Dirty Rice. The difference between dirty rice and boudin? The stuffed sausage shape and the quality of meat used. A good boudin, (like my home made) has pork shoulder instead of ground beef, plus a bit of beef liver, and onions cooked in.
When's the 30 DC barbeque/cajun cookoff/ice cream bonanza/musicfest going down? If we can get a distiller or somebody who makes craft beer to join this thread, this has the all makings of a good time!
There are few places in Birmingham that serve boudin. It's good but I imagine the more authentic version is much better (as it usually is). I don't think I've had it with bits of liver and onion, and it's generally ground beef.

May 10 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush TSD Lanolin Barber Shoppe Gillette Old Type Stirling Unscented PSB TSD Floid Blue Type AS It was a quick shave this morning, but it was a DFS. Shave number two with a Sputnik blade, and the results were just as good as the first. This Old Type does a great job and let's me zip through the shave. I was scheduled to be in California through tomorrow, but a meeting came up and my boss asked me to get back, so I am at the airport with about 2 hours to kill until my flight. The good news is I was supposed to get in somewhat late tomorrow evening. My daughter has a Sherlock Holmes production she is in at school, and I was going to miss it. Now, I'll get to be there.
