May 13 - Executive Man and more Executive Man!!

    Stirling Executive Man Bath soap
    Merkur34C / Sputnik
    Rockwell 6C/ Rockwell SS
    Stirling Executive Man
    DIY PSO
    Alum/ Thayers
    Stirling Executive Man Balm

Today was my nephew's First Holy Communion and I wanted to do something special, have as much EM as possible. On my last order, I grabbed the bath and post shave Balm in EM to pair with my EM sample puck. It was a wonderful shower and shave.

To be a little nuts, both razors were out about 3 days and should be replaced but I figured, hey what's one more. 4.5 passes alternating between the 6C and 34C resulted in a near BBS shave and a ton of irritation. The alum stung bad. I am very much use to Nivea which seems to do a nice job soothing my face even after a bad shave. I grabbed the same amount of Stirling Balm and my face turned white. Way too much. I worked it in and I basked in the EM scent.

Just prior to leaving, I noticed the scent, now a couple hours after shaving, had largely faded so I grabbed my usual YSL L'Homme and added a splash of iced pineapple splash for Stirling as the only attempt to replicate the scent with some longer duration. It was nice and cooling and to my lousy nose smelled good but what do I know. Eventually the pineapple died leaving just YSL which nice too.

Time for new blades tomorrow and a run at Frozen Tundra. It is so nice having so many Stirling soaps that a month long run can be done without repeating a scent! Today's is probably my most favorite

    MAYhem!!! - Finally!

    May 13

    Razor - '46-'47 Gillette Aristocrat
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Stirling Barbershop
    Brush - WCS Synthetic
    Post - Alum

I feel some MAYhem about to happen but one more night on the "safe" option before we open the gates. Another fine shave with the Aristocrat and Sharp Star with Stirling barbershop giving a fantastic lather. No issues at all other than total satisfaction with the baby in the house yet again. And, for the third night in a row, totally quiet alum. How much better can it get, eh?

I'm feeling like one of these is about due for an appearance. Pink perhaps?

I need a new camera. The one I have can take spectacular photos out side in daylight... I just cant seem to do the dark room, at some sort of distance type of thing. I mean, and I am a total amateur, I can get the shutter speed right, so my exposure seems fine, I just cant seem to hold still enough.

So come on guys help me out.... I know if I had a tripod or a stick I could hold more still. I see guys all the time with these mongo cameras... If I had a wider aperture, could I speed up my shutter and not need to be as stable???

Pink trumps butter knife in my book, but after the finger shave and the stivette, you may have to set it on fire to get anyone's attention, Neal!

I don't think the camera matters as much as having the proper lighting and using a tripod. I set up a lightbox, made a PVC frame for some clamp lights with daylight bulbs, and had some fun with it awhile ago. I picked up the lightbox for cheap on Amazon and already had the tripod. I need to set it up again and start using it with some different backgrounds.

Yeah, I mean for photographing at these events my kids are always playing. There's almost always poor light, and usually halfway across an auditorium or concert hall. My assumption is that I need a wider lens so that I can collect more light while having a faster shutter???? I see people all the time with these monster looking cameras that take fantastic looking pictures. I know I could do it with a tripod, but it isn't really an option. I am always either dark or blurry.

Thanks. It was pretty cool. My daughter sang pretty well, but her mic was down a bit too low and it was a big room, so it wasn't a powerful type performance. Let's put it this way: She soloed a half dozen songs and her dad didn't tear up once. She did some sax runs that were really cool though.

Sounds like you are a lucky man. My daughter just started in chorus and with the violin so I hope she is as successful.

Wish your wife a Happy Birthday and a Happy Mothers Day from another Taurus.

My wife and I split our Mothers and Fathers days since we are each born within shot of them and our anniversary splits that!

    Happy Anniversary!

    Enjoy!!

I am not an expert but I can tell a huge difference when using my point and shoot digital camera vs my dslr at events with the girls. I think the dslr does a better job at using the light available so that. My biggest lens is a 100-300mm and I can get some really good shots in the auditoriums and such. We got the dslr as a family gift when the girls were young just for taking photos at events.

That's what I am going to have to do. Thanks. The kids performances are really the only time I want more than what my phone will do really, and my camera just isn't up to it. I was pretty bummed last night when I got home and downloaded my pics. The few good ones I got, someone was walking through, and the rest were blurry. I missed some great shots last night. I will have a new one by the time school starts up next year.

14 May 2017 Mother's Day MAYhem Blade Focus Shave

Pre: Hot water followed by VDH Shave Butter with a hot towel
Razor: 1952 Gillette Super Speed Black Tip
    Blade: Shark Super Chrome
    Brush: Omega 6212 Silvertip
Cream: George F Trumper's "Limes" Shaving Cream
Post: Hot/Cold rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer
    After Shave: Aramis

We interrupt our regularly scheduled GEM Featherweight blade Focus to bring you a Super Speed blade Focus. Two tucks of Single Edge blades are on the way, but won't be here until Monday. So I went back to the Super Speed. At the risk of offending my new friends in the SE community, I have to say I get a better shave DE.
The SS/Shark duo delivered a two pass BBS. I wanted to do three, but there was nothing left to shave. The GFT "Limes" was fantastic. The VIBR was a late scratch. It is Mother's Day, and Aramis is Herself's favorite, know what I'm sayin'? So wish your significant other a happy Mother's Day for me and I'll leave you with this:

    Last night:

    -Schick E2
    -Rudy Vey 28mm
    -Route 66 Lumberjack
    -Stirling Gin and Tonic

I was in a bit of a rush to get going last night, so I grabbed up the Schick which I haven't used in months. What a fantastic razor it is. Since I had shaved earlier in the day, I did an XTG and a ATG, and was BBS'd in no time.

Route 66 is definitely my favorite soap when I need to get moving. In fact, if I was a early morning, rushed shaver, it would probably be my main soap. It loads super quickly, if you use a lather monster brush you are ready to go to the face in seconds. It reminds me a lot of Chiseled Face in loading and lathering, but slicker. The scents are great, I have yet to try one I didn't like. I have a tendency to over hydrate and kill the lather because I shave so often with Stirling and Soap Commander, which are much thirstier soaps. That's 100% user error though. Lumberjack is a great scent, and one I plan to replace when it is used up.

    Have a great Sunday.
